| I don't know anything about older rifles, but a guy at work sold me a german mouser type gun for 35$ I took it home and cleaned it up best i could without to much scrubbing. It says spandau1890 on the barrel and gew88 and a half moon with a s next to it. I have no clue what it even shoots,i am guessing 8mm but i heard not to shoot modern loads through it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

See here for more info. The 88 model is an older version of the 98 Mauser. I'm not sure, but I don't think modern 8mm Mauser ammo is recommended for these 88 model rifles. The 88 has a bore diameter of .318 as opposed to .323 for modern 8mm Mausers.

The Commission Gewehr 1888 is not a Mauser in any way/shape/form. Dutch |

I like them and have one or two. |
