Hey everyone, one of the rifles my Uncle gave me. Mauser Mod 98

a) been seaching for some background based on the markings, year of manufacture plant etc...
b) serial numbers on the receiver, bolt and bolt carrier etc all match (which is pretty cool)
c) was bubba'd in the 60's looking to order a new replica or vintage stock and some additional parts to try to bring it to a more authentic rifle.

Not looking to resell or or anything, just to have a fun functional piece.

Can anyone give me some info, data etc. I've gone to Surplusrifle.com for the functional material.

Go to a copy of the "Right Arm of the Wehrmacht."  Using the date, code and SN, you can find out the sort of stock, etc it had.  Then go to SARCO or Numrich and find that stock.  I did the same with a 1939 42 code Mauser.  I got it back together with the proper stock.  I was able to buy one that didn't have the SN.  Is it original?  No.  But it is as original as anyone could make it.

Are you going to attempt to purchase a stock to make it totally correct (not 100% matching though of course), or do you want to just get a stock that would be correct for any K98 (not correct)?

If going the first route, contact Mario, [email protected]. Show him the pictures you showed here and he can help you get the stock you need. It will cost you however as he lives in the Netherlands and he sells stocks for around $220-$250. They are Norway capture stocks that had original K98's in them that were converted to 30-06. I have one on my CE 41 K98 restoration and it looks great he
From the pictures, it was made in 1944 by Wilhelm-Gustloff-Werke. The barrel seems to have been a subcontracted part made by Steyr-Daimler Puch. If you are looking for any really in-depth info on your rifle I would advise you go to Gunboards.com in their K98 forum. Those guys have plenty of info and can tell you just about anything you want to know. Be sure to take more pics though, as they WILL request them for more info.

Looks like a great rifle and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor. Any other questions feel free to PM me.
