| I bought an M39 last week in what looks like good condition. The bolt is extremely hard to cock. I've had it out and I can't see anything that would cause this problem. Today I was in BIG 5 and they had gotten 3 M44s. The sale was over but the manager let me have for the sale price. It was cocked and with the trigger lock in place I didn't try to pull the trigger. When I got it home I pulled the trigger and the bolt acts just like the M39 bolt. I went back to BIG 5 and tried another one (the mgr. took the trigger lock out) and it worked like it should. Has any one had this problem with a Mosin Nagan rifle? TIA |

Part of the nature of the M/N beast is the bolts are not very easy to manipulate. They are very difficult, if not darned near impossible, to open while the stock stays in contact with the shoulder. But they generally work easily enough if you drop the gun to waist level to open it. They will never compare to the smooth, easy operation of a K98, M1903/03A3 or Enfield. |
