Do the k98s I see advertised that say nazi proof marks have the eagle on top of the  cross or can that mean other stamps?

Let me know if you get a response.
I am still waiting to hear about the codes.

depends.  there sre two different codes. the eagle on top of the swasika is the mark used when the nazi came to power.  the pre war k98 have just an eagle on the rifles.

Warning:  I've heard stories of K98s being advertised as "all markings intact" but they really are not.

What you mean is that some of them have the Nazi signs peened out below the eagles.

When did the death heads appear?

I am not sure of the date on the heads, but I believe those were only used on the "SS" issued rifles.

Death Heads were SS builds. More than they are worth, UNLESS you are into collecting SS k98s. Peened waffenamps are Russian capture. There are alot of "RC" 98's that do not have the peened out waffenamps. If it has what LOOKS like an X on it, its an RC. The X is not an X at all. Its crossed rifles. If you go online and get the LAW book Backbone of the Wehrmacht, it has alot of good info..........

Today if somebody is advertising SS runes or such I'd be more than a little suspicious. Were'nt that many made and there of plenty of individuals that would forge the markings to make a buck.

All of the K98's that have come on the market the last few years are the Russian captures. A lot of them are in really good shape, typcially reblueed and electropencilled to match, but still a K98. The ruskies had many a different way to mark these new rifles some got an x on the reciever and all the nazi or standard markings scrubbed or peened, some got nothing new or marked out.

Sounds like Mitchell's Mausers

I remember talking to a gal that worked there last year and they were selling a batch of the SS K98's. They were supposedly the real deal and in a collector's case. I believe they wanted almost $5,000 for one. ROFL

If you're looking for a K98 order from AIM.  I bought several last year and all were in much better than advertised condition with all markings intact.

I have a 98 k Russian Capture. It is chock full of nazi markings all over it.  Keep in mind not all the nazi stamps were identical.  There are some good places on the net that discuss and help identify markings
