I have an FN49, in 8mm that sometimes has a failure to extract stoppage.  I have shot surplus, surplus with reduced powder loads, current production ammo, and handloads with it. Doesn't seem to matter what I feed it, FTE's run about 40%.
I have replaced the extractor. (the old one looked to be in good shape). There are no signs of over pressure on the case. Bore and chamber are shiny with no visible defects. (don't have a bore scope) Short of taking it to a gunsmith I'm at a loss.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Have you tried adjusting the gas regulator? If it's full open the bolt could be going back to soon due to excessive gas port pressure. It's under the hand guard, and works pretty much the same as a FAL.

Is the bolt moving to the rear? I had the same problem. I tried every possible fix. Turns out the chamber is worn enough to allow the case to move out from under the extractor. Luckily, I have a replacement barrel on hand. Hope you don't have the same issue.

Thanks guys.
It's been awhile since I've messed with it and honestly can't remember if I tried to adjust the gas regulator or not. I plan on taking it out with me the next time I go out and I will check it out.
The bolt does go to the rear. The empty case does seem to fit snugly into the chamber so I don't think there's extra room there.

I appreciate the suggestions.
Thanks
