Now I know there are a few here that do not or think that you shouldnt re-finish your stocks. Someone had already sanded most of the markings off mine. Some are still visible, but faint. So I refinished mine and added the Sickle and Hammer to it. I may not leave it this shiny, but it didnt turn out to bad. Depending on the light its different in color than some of the pics.

Its my first one so be gentle.......comments?

Looks good to me. I was kinda thinking about carving the H&S into my M44s stock, but I'll let you be unique.

TravisM1:
You can thank me later, but how about "Rodina" in Cyrillic?

Russian T-34 tank / Soviet T-34 tank. The Cyrillic reads "Rodina" which is Russian for Motherland.

Thats a cool idea........ "Rodina" (Russian родина) means motherland. When capitalized, the term refers to the whole country, particularly in political speech.

I can't remember what "On to Berlin!" was in Cyrillic.  A T-34 model I have in my office has it painted on the turret.

Sadly I have not shot it yet. Rained most of the weekend. The bore is in excellent shape though.

When I was looking at them I was being eye-balled according to my wife. I guess I was to interested in a certain one on the rack and someone else noticed. It was the only one that all the numbers matched, or so I thought. I didnt get it and told her we would look around some more and I would think about it. Came back 30 minutes later and it was gone. I wanted to kick my own ass. I started checking the numbers and found only one other one that had all matching numbers so I bought it before someone else noticed.

The guy that sold it to me didnt seem to know much about them. He offered to get me one from the back. I told him no that this one has all matching numbers. He pointed to one of the other ones and said the numbers match. Yea they match cause someone used an elecrto-pencil on them. All mine are stamped just like you see in the pic.

Hmm... That is an iteresting stamp above the date. Looks to be a badly stamped X.  Not sure I have seen that before. Without going down to the gun room, I don't think any of my M-44s have it. I'll try to see what I can find on it. I have been asking for pictures in my posts latley becuase someone here posted pics of an East German stamped rifle and I forgot to log on and tell them what they had as I don't think they had known it.

I have been looking at the markings, but really didnt think anything about the x. If you find anything out let me know as I am curious now.

This is the only thing I have found so far, but it doesnt really apply as these markings are on a K98. This was written below the picture:

As this was probably a Russian captured weapon it has an X mark on the receiver.  I had heard that the russians were supposed to grind off the Nazi markings on the weapons but this one had not had the markings ground off (most of them never had the marks ground off).  It was made in Obendorf in 1938, this one was particularly well marked also.
