| I just got my SOG catalog and noticed a CR gun I have not seen before, the Egyptian FN49. They are quite a bit more than other CR guns but it is 8mm and that is about the last plentiful and cheap ammo around. If the gun is decent it may be worth the $525 price tag. Anyone have any experience with these? |

Are you buying it for a shooter? Dennis Jenkins

I got My 49 off gunbroker great gun reference The Last Old World Rifle for info venezulas are in 7mm and some are 308 and some 30-06 Egypt's 8mm are the most common and cheap the originals have a curved plastic butt plate and almost all makings are in arabic expect 3-4 in groups and good preformance at 200 yards the clip is not detachable holding 10 rounds (if memory serves) the cheap 8mm ammo is corrosive and bad for a gas operated semi auto |
The original FN's did not have a plastic buttplate. However, Century imported a ton of parts and refurbed them with a black plastic buttplate. In many cases this plastic plate will tip you off to a refurb. The FN 49 is a very nice weapon and it will perform well if in decent shape. There are some issues with the original firing pin and many people advise replacing it. Corrosive ammo is not really a problem if you clean the system after every use. The FN's system is easier to clean than an SVT, so don't worry about it. In mine I have found the 80's Yugo, Romanian, and some old Port to perform the best. 50's Yugo is a no go for mine and do not use the Turk 8mm that is still out there. $525 is an OK price, but I would like to have a better description before I buy. Good luck. |
Mostly a shooter, I don't have any real collector guns. I have never seen one before and it looks interesting. |
| I have one of these and they are really nice shooter. It is in great shape and the bore and all the metal except the rear sight pedestal is in mint condition. The rear pedestal had some crappy black paint on it that came off during cleaning. The furniture was also very nice but as others have stated, it is a century put together. I would reccomend the weapon if you are looking for a nice shootable FN 49. |
