| Tried to search, but didn't find anything on them. My question is...what are the markings if any to signify a Lithgow rifle? A guy at the gunshow had a bunch of enfields today but I didn't know what to look for. Had some Longbranch's....where were these made? Any good? Thanks Greg |

I did a search on Google and found this. www.gunboards.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=74165 Scroll down there are pictures. |

They are ALL good. The Longbranchs were made in Canada and the Savages were made in the USA. I know Savage only made #4's. Don't know about Longbranch but I've never seen anything but #4's from there. Lithgow never made any #4's. I can see where this could be a bit confusing.<G> Dennis Jenkins

| Sorry, I should have been a little clearer in my post. Anyway, what markings distinguish the Lithgows in the No 1 mk3's? The question on the Longbranchs should have been separated from that question cause I had been looking at the mk 4's the guy had too. Thanks. Greg |

The more desirable Lithgows have a "shield" on the buttsocket. You sound like a good candidate for a nice Enfield book.<G> Dennis Jenkins

Manufacturer is engraved on the buttsocket, on the same side as the bolt. Lithgows say Lithgow. I believe they made them longer than anyone perhaps save Ishapore, so dates can be well outside the ww1-2 timeframe. I've seen pics of Aussies in Korea with Lithgow SMLE's and it did my heart good |

Never seen a Lithgow that didn't clearly say Lithgow on it. They're marked on that band of metal where the buttstock attaches, on the right side, where the knob od the bolt rests. The know of the bolt indirectly protects that area from too much abrasion so that the markings don't get worn they way they might on the other side. |
