The CMP just raised prices on M1 Garands and created a couple new grades.

I sent in my order for a Greek service grade HRA today and thought I was screwed.  They bumped the price $100 after I dropped my order in the mailbox.

Turns out, if you get your order post marked by 9 April you can get the old prices.

If you're sitting on the fence, now's your chance.

I think the problem is that so many people are buying them just for resale, for a good profit, that the CMP wants to cool down that sector a bit...just a guess...just a year ago I had a hard time finding a good Garand to purchase at any Gun Show, now, the shows are flooded with them.

Yeah, having to be self-sufficient and supporting junior shooting programs, or shooting programs in general, is greedy.

Last time I checked, CMP was a privately owned for profit business. Supporting shooting programs is advertisement written off on taxes. Is it possible for you to comprehend this??????

You are speaking of that which you do not know.

"The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all qualified U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth. The CMP operates through a network of affiliated shooting clubs and associations that covers every state in the U.S. The clubs and associations offer firearms safety training and marksmanship courses as well as the opportunity for continued practice and competition.

The CMP was created by the U.S. Congress. The original purpose was to provide civilians an opportunity to learn and practice marksmanship skills so they would be skilled marksmen if later called on to serve the U.S. military. Over the years the emphasis of the program shifted to focus on youth development through marksmanship. From 1916 until 1996 the CMP was administered by the U.S. Army. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1996 (TITLE XVI) created the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice & Firearms Safety, Inc. (CPRPFS) to take over administration and promotion of the CMP. The CPRPFS is a tax exempt not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that derives its mission from public law."

Any way you look at it, it's a kick ass deal.

I count the CMP as one of the Good Things.

Wow, I guess you're right and I'm wrong, that doesn't exempt you from being a 'tard.

BTW I stand by my original statement, non-profit corps are not above being greedy.

Yeah I know. The cynical smartass in me can't get over the fact that we are paying for the rifles twice.

If mailed in orders are postmarked by tomorrow...they will still honor the "old" prices.

Would you be surprised if I stated that even with the $100 increase they are still the best deal in town.

The time will come when we reminisce about 500 dollar Garands.  I just hope the supply doesn't dry up because of the make-a-buck crowd buying all of them.  There are some things that are more important than profit.

I suspect that may be a large part of the reason for the price increase. If I remember correctly, buying and reselling goes against the spirit of the CMP program. This price increase just cuts into the profit (thus the motive) of the make-a-buck crowd.
