| How do I completely disassemble the bolt so I can clean all the cosmo out of it? |
|
Hey! Here's another great site for dissasembly, history, markings, maintenence, etc. www.russian-mosin-nagant.com If you're planning on shooting Czech silvertip in the future or any other steel cased surplus, I would go ahead and polish up the chamber while you have it apart. This will help in preventing the bolt from binding when shooting this type ammo. Hve Fun! |
| Well, I thought that looked simple enough. I pushed the firing pin down on a piece of soft wood and tried to unscrew the cocking piece. But the firing pin and spring turns with it. What am I doing wrong? I thought it would be similar to my K98 but I can't get it apart. |

Hey! Use the long slotted piece (bolt connector/guide bar) that connects the bolt head to the bolt body as a wrench. Place this piece on the flats of the firing pin. Holding the cocking piece unscrew the firing pin from the cocking piece. Only go a turn and a half to get it started. Finish unscrewing as noted in the instructions. If you uncrew it to much with that piece you will have a hell of a projectile when it unscrews from the cocking piece. |
| That worked. I just set the firing pin down on the wood, and while holding a little bit of downward pressure, used the "wrench" to unscrew the firing pin. Thanks for the help. Good thing I decided to break the bolt down before taking it to the range, it was nasty inside there. |

Hey! Those bolts can be a pain! Once you've cleaned it thoroughly the first time you shouldn't have any problems. I took mine to the range yesterday and polishing the chamber took care of the bolt sticking problem when using Czech surplus ammo. When you go to the range the first few times bring some cleaning gear. After ten rounds or so (when it warms up) clean the bore. You will find that these rifles will sweat out the old fouling for some time. After a while the bore will clear up and cleaning won't be such a hassle. Have Fun! p.s. Get a butt pad! After about 60 rounds your shoulder will get a bit raw! |
