Arts and crafts day.

Attempting to make two WWII .22LR FG42 clones using aluminum brazing method for the 1" OD aluminum tube receiver.

The 2nd FG42 will have a longer front grip and MG42 pistol grip housing.

My first time doing woodworking and aluminum brazing. Trial and error time!

Tools:
wheel cutter
reciprocating saw
scroll saw
dremel
belt sander
mapp torch
aluminum brazing rods
cheap $12 cherry wood from Home Depot.

Fore grip and stock reference

I cut it using a scroll saw..  I need some large C clamps so i can use a reciprocating saw to cut it faster.

Spent about 20 minutes on the belt sander to do some contours.

cool trick to clean up the wood residue stuck on the belt sander is to use a stainless steel wire brush.  also the rubber sole on a shoe works

My first time doing aluminum brazing. Shit is solid and hard to break. $10 map torch and $5 brazing rods.

Definitely need to clean off the oxidation on the aluminum pieces with a stainless wire brush before brazing.

Also recommended to bevel the edges

drilled holes into the stock and did more cuts on the aluminum

That's awesome man. I always wanted to re-make some unobtainium guns in .22lr, 9mm or really whatever.

i used wood to make the pistol grip. i didnt feel like cutting/shaping a thick aluminum billet for the grip

i made 2 grips.

a lot of sanding, beveling so it wont be this bulky.

i need to look up some vids on how to checker with my filing set.  will paint the grip black and the handles will be stained

I'll be using a Marlin 795 since they're cheaper than using a 10/22

A Ruger 10/22 wont fit
