I have to wonder why there is no talk of this rifle on here?
There are many happy owners, with very high round counts, who have nothing but good things to say about it. I noticed that some people were pissed off about the lawsuit brought toward GSG, but the thing was a cheap toy. The Walther manufactured, Umarex imported, officially licensed version is well made, highly reliable, and the cost is under $300. It may not be as versatile or as customizable as the Ruger 10/22, but it is a fun rifle. I don't know about the rest of you but I grew up in the 80s watching movies likeNavy Seals and Predator, which instilled a love for the darn thing. I have no useful purpose for a genuine 9mm MP5, but the .22LR version is a blast and inexpensive to shoot. Meaning, I am able to relive those joys of my childhood and get that warm feeling slinging lead, from something that very closely resembles the creature that started my love affair with the dark side. And I don't feel guilty afterwards. What better way to gain your childrens interest in firearms and the commonality of beliefs in liberty that so frequently follow? |

Yep, I SBR'd mine and put a Surefire Ryder can on it. Got the fixed A5 stock for it and have a lighted forend coming this week to complete the "look" of an MP5. Amazingly fun little rifle. Quoted:

And it's even better with a couple stamps. Yep, I SBR'd mine and put a Surefire Ryder can on it. Did you just cut the barrel and re-thread? Also, anyone know where these are for sale? I am thinking about getting one, but cannot find them in stock anywhere... |

It's the same one they use in their HK416 pistol. So it is a factory threaded barrel. Then I cut down the barrel shroud so it would all fit. You need to get a thread adapter for the crazy small barrel up to 1/2x28. I ordered mine from hkparts.net |

Mike at TSC Machine did mine (I was the first one to get mine done through him). He did a great job and it matches the MP5 well, also has a three lug mount for a suppressor. TSC Machine

I love mine. There is some dislike because the importer is Umerex who also sells Airsoft. It's a fun range toy even without stamps. Wish the mags were solid meaning no window. You have to love the slide feature on the mags though, it makes it fast and easy to load- important as fast as they seem to empty them. |

I own one. GREAT little plinker. It is amazing how fast you can dump a mag. Not full auto fast but once you get into the cadence of the trigger you can really let rounds rip.
I wish they were more SBR friendly (doable but not as simple as just cutting he barrel). I would love one as a host for my Sparrow. |

So how do you SBR it, without sending it to a specialized HK shop?
Can you take the barrel off it, and then have that shortended, threaded, and put back on? When I take the fake can off mine, it looks like there's a thin barrel shround over the barrel, with the actual barrel contained within the shround, is that correct? And what is the thread pitch that the barrel is threaded to? |

And what is the thread pitch that the barrel is threaded to? You can take the barrel off fairly easily. I ordered a replacement 9" barrel direct from Umerax, it's the same barrel they use on their HK416 pistols. Drops right in. The complicated part is that barrel shroud you mentioned. I measured it and cut it with a pipe cutter but taking it off the rifle is a huge pain in the ass. I just left it on the rifle and cut it in place. Once you have your short barrel and cut the shroud off, I put the adapter from HK Parts on and then threaded my Surefire Ryder on. |
