I had the pleasure of testing Kidd charging assemblies on a couple of my 10/22s over the past few days. Here's the review I posted on my blog together with a video showing the nuances of installing it: 10/22 Companion Blog: Kidd Charging Assembly

Here's the pull quote:

You can significantly improve your OEM charging assembly with some elbow grease, but it still won’t be as slick as the Kidd. You can put ultra-smooth riding tires on your Chevy or Ford, but it won’t give you the refined ride of a Mercedes S-class suspension. As with all the Kidd products I have tried, there is just no substitute for more sophisticated design, higher-grade materials, and more precise manufacturing than ordinary mass-market producers can afford given the constraint of a low price point. If your plan is for an ultimate semi-auto .22 rifle, the Kidd charging handle is a relatively inexpensive part to get that refined feel.

Excellent review.

I've had the KIDD round with the viton/rubber/whatever sleeve charging handle in my cart for 2 weeks now. Would you recommend that one over the others?

I'm also going to order a 16" ultra lightweight threaded barrel at the same time. Should be a sweet suppressor host.

Thanks. I put a lot of work into these reviews. As for choosing a "best", I can't do that. It's really a matter of preference, and de gustibus non disputandum.

As I wrote in the review, for my own rifle I would get one of the round handles but that's just because I like to work the bolt with my left thumb. I tested both the rubber and the ribbed, and liked them equally.

Your video is excellent sir. I am somewhat of a 1022 newb. I ordered kidd parts for a takedown rifle and takedown charger. When I went to get the rod and charging handle reinstalled I had to sit there and stare at the parts and try a few different things until I got it back in. If your video had been available it would have saved me 15 minutes.

Well done.

From what I've seen and read, BobN is the resident expert on all things 10/22. He is absolutely right about the quality of the KIDD products. I've had their 2 stage trigger, extended bolt handle, and bolt buffer and all are of the highest quality and craftsmanship. To top it off, their customer service is top notch and Tony Kidd will talk to you just like a best friend!
