I recently got a Nikon P-22 BDC scope and installed it on my 10/22 tactical. I didn't buy any rings for it because I had a Nikon P series AR (two piece) rings already. They installed all right and I can see through it fine. I was wondering if it made any difference in the accuracy since they are mounted higher up than I would prefer. I have taken it to the range and sighted it in at 50 yards and I'm getting a hair over 3" groups at 100 (CCI 1040 LRN bulk) (this is VERY good for me). Should I get some medium or low Weavers or just stick with the AR mount?

It's just a matter of cheek weld, or if you can get a repeatable, comfortable position when you press your cheek to the stock. Get too high a mount and you have to stretch to get a good sightline, and not only does this get uncomfortable after awhile, but you can end up mounting the rifle a little differently each time you shoot, and that can affect accuracy and consistency.
Any optic you attach to your rifle needs to be mounted in such a way that when you shoulder the rifle the optic falls naturally to your eye. If instead you have to move your head up - or backwards or forward - to see through the optic, it's going to adversely affect your accuracy. |
