| I bought a CZ 455 standard in 22lr and I wanted a "tacticool" model so I've ordered the varmint barrel and boyd's stock online to make my own. Is there anything special that I need to know or do beyond replacing one barrel with the other and one stock with the other? I understand that the barrel change is simple, I'm more concerned about the stock. I'm completely ignorant regarding the concept of bedding. |

With my CZ 452 I went through two stocks with different bedding deciding on what gave me the best accuracy. I did a full bedding job and saw little improvement over factory.
I settled on two bedding points using steel putty (the kind that comes in a tube and you roll in your fingers). One bedding point under the rear tang, one in the front under the first inch of the barrel. This gave me the best shot to shot consistency and saved me the headache of a full bedding job. I cleaned and degreased the areas of the stock where the putty would stick, apply release agent to action and barrel, rolled putty into flat rounds and set in stock, then installed the action into the stock like normal. After 20 minutes it was set and the action has no play at all when in the stock (it did before). (if you do this method, wear latex gloves when working with the putty, ask me how I know) |
