I'm looking at some of the barrel threading services on ebay and have a couple of questions.
1. They are all listed at 1/2"x28 but some say thread length is .400 and some say .500. Which is better? My intention is a put a suppressor2 on eventually, but for now just a muzzle brake. 2. Some say they shorten the barrel to 16.5 inches some say full length. Which of these is preferred? |

Most rimfire suppressors I have seen, and both of the ones I own, use .400" of threading and need a spacer to prevent "over-installing" if you have .500" threaded. Final bbl length is a matter of personal preference. If you want to retain and use your iron sights you will have to use a shop that offers that service (less common than those who will simply shorten and thread, discarding the front sight). I had a few done by a shop last year and was VERY happy with the final product. I'll look for the link and come back to post it later if you are interested in that option... Quoted: Before you make a mistake by using an eBay provider to thread your barrel, please go to the ADCO webpage and look up the info on their threading services, you won't be disappointed. As for what thread length just refer to your silencer manufacturer for specs. ADCO is great and I have them do most of my threading (many firearms over the last few years)... but they don't offer the option to keep the front sight, or at least they haven't in the past. But, as I said, that may or may not be important to the OP. |

Quoted: I don't need or want the front sight. How does adco do it? Cut the barrel behind the front sight? And then thread it? They will cut it to the length you desire and thread in your needed spec. They do excellent work and, since you don't care about the FS, they are who I would recommend. E-mail them with any specific questions, or post them on their Industry Sub-Forum here. Great folks. |

ETA: Here is the link -- http://jpgrips.com/page4 I just got my barrel back form jpgrips yesterday. I shipped it to them on Jan.23rd, so basically I had it back in less than a month. I don't know how well my can threads on yet because I still don't have a 1/2"-28 piston. The thread protector threads on and off smoothly, whatever that's worth. As a matter of fact, there is no visible line where the barrel ends and the thread protector starts. It just looks like I had the front sight removed and the end of the barrel knurled. |
