Using my Ruger 10-22 at my range anywhere from 50-250 yards...

is a 16x scope to much for the under 100 yard range, found a good deal on a straight 16x and thought ???

If you're shooting off of a bench with sandbags at tiny little targets, then 16X is not too much at 100 yards.  If you're plinking around, its too much.

A 16x is actually pretty underpowdered. A lot of people plink/play & really don't understand the usage of a high powdered scope. To be at the top of your game with a 22 you need a quality sscope with a high magnification.

For what it's worth, I use a 20x to 24x for shooting silhouettes off-hand @ 40yds, 60yds, 77yds & 100yds. All though the 1/5th scale targets aren't huge, they are also not small either

A 40yd chicken. & 1 of the rifles I use for silhouettes, a 10/22 with a 8-32x50mm scope.
