So I got a used 10/22 for 100 bucks so Im really not that upset, but was wondering the best way to fix a problem with it.  Seems that 1 or 2 of the screw mount holes are stripped.  I have put in blue loctite (just enough to coat the screw) and so far its holding firm.  Any other suggestions if that does not work?

Thanks

You can fill the hole with JB weld, let it dry and re-tap it. Not sure if the JB weld will hold on a gun though? It might on a .22, it held on a lot of my R/C stuff and they went through hell. If its a real beater gun, I'd even just JB weld the rail to the reciver with the screws in.
Or drill and tap the holes out to the next size bigger and pick up the proper screws.

This is what I'd do.

helicoil. auto parts store for about 20 bucks, lot less messy than jb weld and easier not to offset the hole

You can go just slightly larger on the threads, without having to re-drill the scope base for the next size screws.

So do I just need to buy the screws and keep the base that I have?

Yes. A pack of screws and a tap to re-thread the hole(s).

Just run the tap through the existing threads - no need to drill them out first.

Re-use the same base that you have.

I had to do this to mine after 30 years of use and abuse.  As a result, I also had to open up the scope mount holes a bit as well.

Solder and retap.  Just got into soldering and found it is the answer to everything, even in places that are inappropriate.  But seriously plumber's solder and drill and tap.

Just retap, donot jb weld or solder unless you know what you are doing. To be honest the blue loctite will probally be there for years anyhow and I honestly wouldnot mess with, if it works and is holding

These are pretty small screws, how small do helicoils come?

There is very little clearance below before the ends of the screws start to drag on the top of the bolt.

When I ham fisted one of mine and striped them I drilled them out to a bigger size then had to grind the inside to shorten them up.

This is common as the rieciever is thin (short screws with only a couple of thread turns catching) and soft aluminum

Likely you will have to drill the base to a bigger screw hole size and also conterbore for clearance for the larger screw head

Be careful not to get to long a screw if you retap it to the next size up.
The new screw will go thru (If its to long) and hit the bolt and bind it up.
