Ok, there have been a few loose topics around about scopes for the takedown model, what people have used, what would work good, and so on. Well, I wanna make a topic devoted just for selecting a decent, low-cost (as in no more than $75 or so)compact (as in it'll still fit in the case) and in my case a quick detach so if I choose to use my irons, or buy a red-dot later I can.
I have been looking at scopes till I'm tired of looking at scopes, and I have read a few ideas on here, and I have seen a few scopes I like. I'll start out saying as far as rings, I think I have decided on these rings as they don't cost a fortune, and should fit my needs just fine. Now, on scopes. I've seen countless ideas, but as I said above they are either too long, or cost more than I'm willing to spend on a 10/22 that'll be used a camping gun and range plinker, with maybe a occasional pest control use. I'm going to post up a few ideas I have, and feel free to comment, add suggestion, or make your own recommendations, lets just make it a open thread for scopes on a 10/22 takedown model. This scope is my top runner right now.... I've thought about this scope although I'm not sure on the overall length of it. and this scope although it may be a bit long.... Feel free to add opinions, recommendations, whatever

I've ordered this Leaper mount
and these rings 
General consensus seems to be that they return to zero consistently, so I think I'm going to get the $150 Nikon 6725 (3-9x40) rimfire scope and store it in the second pocket beside the barrel. At least that's the plan, I'll let you know if it works out. |

Ask me how I know.. I checked that out with a old air rifle scope I had, you have about a inch you can go past the receiver, then it won't fit in the case. |

I let the loctite site overnight on the rail to receiver assembly. I worked the QR's quite a bit to get them to break in and set tight. Then I put them in position and pushed them both forward on the base. adjust the QR's so the levers get tight at 45 degrees and are tight all the way down. I put the scope in, got it leveled and tightened it all down. I like this Nikon scope for the price. Very clear and nice sharp reticle. it got it sighted in at 50yds and then tested the return to zero and it seems to be very close if not dead on. The 10/22 is a bit small for me and I didn't really have a good bench rest, but shots were within an inch at 50yds and I removed and put the sight back on several times. So, if you're looking for a low cost solution, the UTG base and rings seem to OK. |
