So I've had my 795 for quite awhile now and never really cared too much about how shitty the trigger is. I got it cheap as dirt so I just suspected that it is what it is. The trigger reset often fails and I just keep finger banging it until it eventually does.  It seems there isn't consistency, both when it fails and functions fine. Can anyone chime in and let me know if this is normal or something that I should send marlin to get fixed?

That doesn't sound good. I would return the rifle to Marlin.
I am sure that they will correct the problem.

The problem with the Marlin 795 and 60 as well as the other models that use the same stock/action is the trigger group is not attached to the action.  The barreled action is held very sloppy in the factory inletted stock and slides around front to back. The trigger group installs to the bottom of the stock, so as the action slides around, the trigger pull changes, or sometimes does not even reset.

With my Marlins I bed the action to the stock as well as the trigger guard to the stock, then do a trigger/action job on them with a set screw tapped into the "P" of the trigger to take up pre-travel, and a set screw in the trigger to the overtravel pin hole for adjustable overtravel.

To me that sounds like quite an amount of work actually make the gun function as it should from the factory.
