For a scope try...Simmons 22Magnum..comes with rings.
Install an auto bolt release. You can modify yours or buy one for around $12. For a better trigger install a VQ or Power Custom target hammer and/or sear kit. I like the P>C> set myself. Another little trick is to sand down the inside of the barrel band where it goes over the barrel so that it no longer touches the barrel. For all sorts of ideas and info go to..RimfireCentral |

The 10/22's are one of the most modified rifles in the world. This is not because they are bad rifles, its because the way they are built and the numbers they have been produced in make it a natural for suppliers to make parts for. There is so much available for that rifle its can not all be listed. You could write books about them. In fact, there are books written about them!
Hit RFC and start reading. You will be amazed at some of the things people have done with these. Oh, some of us have "more than one" of the 10/22's. That is the other thing about them, they are not expensive and pretty soon you get hooked on them and start building variations. I don't have that affliction myself, I only have five of them! One guy near by has over sixty of them! |

The auto bolt release just makes life easier, and I recommend doing it while the trigger group is apart for the other mod. I have been doing some research on 22 scopes and am looking at the Nikon Prostaff BDC. Haven't bought one yet, but it's affordable and gets good reviews. There are some threads on here with guys offering opinions and reviews that compare some good scopes for 22. Good luck. |

The easiest and best thing you can do is throw in the volquartsen hammer and maybe spring, do NOT install the trigger return spring it's too soft.
Buy some ruger bx25 magazines and have fun. You don't really need anything else. Cheap 4x scope is fine or a 3-9x. Stock of your choice. I have the promag marauder (nomad) stock on mine and like it as far as tactical stocks go. I like the hogue stock for a comfortable target stock...it definitely ain't free float but who cares? |

Does the BDC work with 22lr? I am thinking about ordering a Butler Creek folding stock. Will definitely do the trigger mods. Thanks for all the info guys. I have a Nikon Prostaff "Rimfire" 3-9x on one of my 10/22's. Yes, the BDC is calibrated for .22LR, with the crosshair being 50, then 75, 100, 125, and 150 yards. Having said that, I've found the BDC to be a little aggressive; the 75 circle works great for 100 yards shooting Federal bulk pack. ETA - Oh, and the prostaff is a great scope. |

The best two mods I have done are the bolt buffer (many different types available) and the target hammer.
Many people love the Volquartsen extractor but not everyone needs it. Afterwards let your wallet be your guide. I believe Green Mountain makes tapered barrels now. They make great barrels for the price. Try some basic mods then shoot what you have to see how she runs. |

All of the above. I've got 3 10/22s all in various states of mods, but I have trigger work on all of them. I like the Power Customs trigger and I have a Hornet Products trigger on one, it's nice too. Getting the trigger from that heavy creepy factory trigger to something under 3lbs. makes a huge difference. Skys the limit in other mods, there's guys on Rimfire Central that will tweek your factory barrel for more accuracy, bolt work to pin the firing pin and the list of available aftermarket parts would fill volumes.. As long as your wallet can hold out there's endless mods. Look at the Meuller scopes (apv), I've got one on my target rifle, good glass, good price and I believe Gunkings.com and joeboboutfitters.com have free shipping
My favorite rifle to shoot on the cheap is a 10/22 with a Beyer lightweight barrel, Hornet trigger, Que bolts reworked and pinned bolt on a Boyd's Evolution stock with Meuller glass. Extremely light and accurate even with bulk ammo. When the ammo bucks are tight, it's my go to gun. Can shoot all afternoon on 15 bucks in ammo and have fun. |

Just put one on my squirrel rifle a few weeks ago. So far I love it. I wish the BDC had been setup for 1400 fps instead of 1600 but nothing's perfect I guess. |

I see the kit has gone up since I bought mine. I got it on a xmas sale about six years ago for $199. The barrel/chamber is really nice, my krinker shoots as well as if not better than my old green mt. rifle. About the only time I shoot these is winter for indoor shooting. |

Here is my 10/22 all weather carbine. Its bone stock right now. I have tons of ammo and mags for it. It came with an optics rail, thinking about adding a magnified scope(recommendations welcomed), is it any good? Also, I wanted to start modding/adding accessories to it but am not sure where to start. I want to keep the barrel, bolt and receiver it came with as it all seems fairly accurate to me to 100m. Anyway what do y'all think I should do to it? http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g350/BoovarBjarki/9aca554e.jpg
You can get the stocks for about $150 if you search around |
