I just bought a basic 1022 and want to mount a scope.
Is the Ruger rail that came with it GTG or should I invest in something better like a Larue? |

better is better, but does it fit your budget and do you need it?
i like my scopes forward, and the rails that end at the front of the receiver don't allow me to move most scopes far enough forward for my liking. other people seem to like them further back. sooo i've got a custom Volquartsen extended rail on order for my all VQ gun (nothing else mounts on their receiver) and will be getting a LaRue for another rifle with a Ruger receiver. the OEM rail works, but the dual setup with the 3/8" dovetail and Weaver rail combined always seemed odd to me. i was going to chop one up to mount it on the front half for a micro red dot to cowitness with my Tech Sights on another gun, but i found an inexpensive Picatinny rail made by Weaver that i'll chop for that task. this will give me a few more cross slots, and IMHO look better than the OEM rail. |
