What brand/model of .22LR are you guys getting the best accuracy out of? I am looking to use in rifles and pistols.
Thank you ahead of time. CSP |

ALL guns are different. Some auto-loaders are picky...there is no universal answer for what you are looking for.
That being said, this rimfire junky prefers: Federal Champion #510 (40gr RN High Velocity)...also very similar to the Walmart Federal Lightenings Winchester SuperX 1300fps 40gr RN Wolf Match Target That covers some of the cheapest "plinking" ammo, running $14-16 per 500rnds...so some of the better operating rounds for picky semi-auto's running $30-32 per 500rnd (and a great hunting round, IMHO)...and some of the best shooting "Match" ammunition (for the budget minded) that seems to shoot well in most rifles. I also have had good luck with AutoMatch as mentioned, as well as American Eagle and Blazer bulk. Of course, MiniMags are a universal "go-to" round. |

bscman is correct, all .22's will have their own preference for ammo that shoots best.
But I've had the best luck across the board with Wolf Match Target, or the identical except for the box SK Standard Plus. Only thing that shoots better is Ely Red at $15+ for a box of 50. |

Several years back when attempting to find which ammo a particular gun likes, I bought "one of everything" from Midway. Well, not literally everything since I did not try the super-expensive top line stuff from the likes of Eley, RWS, Lapua etc. Why? because if it did like that ammo, I would really hate to pay for it. I did try several of their lower-line products though. In the end I wound up with ~50 different types of .22 ammo and I keep them all in an ammo can to pull out whenever I really want to find a good ammo for a particular rifle. The beauty of a .22 is that you can literally try every kind of ammo you can find for it and not go totally broke doing it. |
| For the lesser expensive stuff American Eagle runs pretty well in all my rifles and have always had good luck with UMC too, I use both of these in my autoloaders. My target bolt rifles all prefer Wolf Match Extra with RWS Rifle Match a close second and also get nice groups with the Remington Eley Target and Winchester Match. Federal Gold Medal Match is so-so, my Win. model 52's don't like it at all and CCI Green Tag sucks in all of my rifles. When I want to shoot my model 52's or 75's I grab the Wolf and RWS and know I'm going to have a good shoot. |
