(This has no doubt been posted before but I could not find it)

Ok I'm no stranger to building Rugers sweet little pop gun, I've been tinkering on them for years.
But when I decided to build a High end 10/22 the barrel choices seemed a little more involved than just throwing some coin at a vendor when I visit the local Fun show.

The more I read & researched my barrel options the more my gray matter started turning brown with a distinct hint of bacon in the air.
Now I'm probably looking way too much into this but I have plenty of time on my hands to build this shooter & don't want to have buyers remorse.
It's happened before & really didn't find it good for morale.

My intended use will be Precision shooting either bench or CMP, the kids will probably get there paws on it as well so I imagine spending $300 on a Douglas barrel might be over the top. Tony Kidd seems to have a fine choice as well as Clark & GM.
Lets hear it from the gallery, what are you gentlemen running on your Rugers?

Kidd is an excellent choice, as is GM. I'm running a Hi-desert dog 16" spiral fluted and threaded barrel. It's a lot more accurate than me. It was recommended by the good people on rim fire central.

Be aware, if you DO go through with a Hi Desert Dog, their shipping is SLOW. Took almost 3 weeks to get mine, and when it came, my bolt buffer wasn't in there. They sent that really fast though when I emailed them about it.

ETA: RFC's aftermarket barrel section

Kidd makes great stuff. GM is also a very good barrel, but at a little lower cost.

KIDD makes some impressive looking stuff but I am on some what of a budget, a GM 20" Stinger barrel with 1:18 twist versus a 1:16 may be the direction I'm headed.
I'm not running a can or a comp so the high velocity would suit me,Of course the regular spring may need an up grade for the hotter loads.

Just a FYI, most of the precision target loads (Eley, Wolf, Aguila, Lapua ect) are standard velocity.

Wolf Match Target Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain (considered one of the best) is 1050fps
Eley 1085 fps
Lapua 1073 fps
Aguila Match Rifle Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round Nose 1080 fps

CCI minimag high velocity 1235 fps
Remington Viper 1900 Rimfire 22 Long Rifle Hyper Velocity 1410FPS

From those stats it sounds like High Velocity is more of a hunting load, than match grade.
In which case 1:16 twist would be just fine & cheaper on the bank account.

Mine's 1/16 and shoots either load fine. Obviously the match grade stuff is more accurate than the cheap hi-velocity stuff, but it's not a HUGE difference if you're just plinking.

"Benchrest" and "Stinger" should NOT be used in the same sentence.
Clark, Volquartsen, and KID barrels all start as Lothar Walther blanks. Kidd laps a .001-.002 taper in the bore.
At $180, a KID barrel is VERY hard to beat.
DO NOT use Stingers or other longer than normal cased ammo in the match chambers of these barels.
SV ammo is almost always more accurate than HV. These barrels easily shoot sub 1/2" @ 50yd with reasonably good ammo\; some combinations shoot one ragged hole @ 50yd.
For range use where distances are known, there is no benefit to HV ammo, except maybe price.

Dully noted, thanx for the 411. Probably the reason my CCI stinger ammo is collecting dust & all my SV stuff gets used up.

That is because they freakin rock!

This was was special ordered to 16.5". It shoots Wolf MT at 1050 fps, which is the rated speed for the load out of a 22" or 24" barrel.

I have not taken any pictures of the groups as I am still working on the bedding, but it shoots phenomenal.

Just a warning, but once you own a Kidd, your expectations for hunting will change considerably. After a while, a target the size of a rabbits head seems too easy.

Fly at 50 yds.

I am slowly working my way into a ultra light build with a Kidd lightweight.

It will shoot one ragged hole at 50 yds. with a proper rest. The group to the right is 50 yds with no rear rest. The group to the right is actually two separate groups as I was trying to nail down the sight in, but having difficulty without a rear rest.

The fly was just too tempting a target. Guess the sight in was okay.

I really hate it when people say their barrel shoots great, but never tell you what "great" means.

Great shooting to me is consistently sub .5" at 50 yds with a proper rest. Not just once, but many times. Sub .1 ctc groups are not terribly uncommon for a barrel of this quality.
