| I want to get a .22 rifle for Appleseed and I was wondering what to get. Ruger 10/22's with tech sights seem to be a popular option, but I'd rather have something different. I'm looking for either a bolt action, or a semi-auto .22 clone (Such as Sig 552 and M&P 15 .22). What would be my best bang for the buck option for this? Ideally I would like to get a semi-auto .22 clone, but I'm wondering if the accuracy would be adequate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Have a 15-22 & quite pleased with overall accuracy & reliability just using Federal 36-gr. HP bulk ammo. Topped the rifle off with a CenterPoint variable scope (know it's Chinese, but just fine for a .22) & also added a Burris FastFire dot on a 45-degree offset Yankee Hill mount.
Trigger isn't what I like, but there are modifications that can be done to either lighten the factory set or can replace with other drop-ins. Just my $.02 worth! |

You would have to put some "qualifiers" on the meaning of "best bang for the buck." IF you think.................that you'll need to spend X in order to get to the winners circle or if you're wondering if the extra $$$ will get you _____ inches better groups...........well............. OK.......... So, ME.............I'd approach it differently. Mind you............I've never shot an Appleseed event (only Hi-Power Service Rifle Matches). Anyway.............I'd buy the rifle that I wanted (forget about Appleseed for the moment) and go shoot it. Then, after I'm familiar with the platform..........I'd go shoot the event. BTW, I hear that Appleseed can be done with a bolt but, with a semi you're at an advantage because of the times. As for the accuracy part...........a bull barrel and scope is a huge advantage over sporter barrels and irons. BUT..........IMHO, don't get all worried over the "equipment stuff." Relax and enjoy the shoot for what it is. Aloha, Mark PS...........I'm not saying that it'll happen to you if you buy a S&W but.............have you read some of the recent posts? |
| Just bought a Sig 522; two shooting outings now about 1200 rds in so far. Terrific fun, has eaten both the Walmart Federals and the 333s without an issue, and quite accurate for "fun plinking". Have a custom 10/22, Henry Goldenboy, Rem Targetmaster, etc...might be the most enjoyable yet. Definitely worth the money!!! |
