I recently taught my girlfriend how to shoot.(just .22 for now)
She is actually a really good shot started to make me look bad at one point but i put her in her place. She has shot my Remington 597LR and my Marlin 25MN 22Mag She says she wants a bolt action for better accuracy in 22LR Looking at probably getting a savage or a marlin. I saw a Remington model 5 youth but idk about that. Shes 5' flat and about 100 lbs Probably looking for something $150-$250 What suggestions do you guys have. SS |

10/22. I know she wants a bolt action, but I am not sure that they are that much more accurate.
There is also the 77/22 but the price is way out of your stated range. I tell you what though, you get her one or, even better, a Browning T-Bolt you would be sure to be "Thanked" hard. Damn that t-bolt is sweet. Plus Kevin at BDM has figgered out how to mod a 30rd mag to fit it. It is just my thinking that if I am going go get a bolt .22, that I oughta get one that takes complete advantage of the bolt rifle platform. There seems to be alot of cheap bolt .22's that offer nothing over a good semi in the same price range. I have not played with some of the newer ones though. |

Keep looking. The CZ Scout is superb.
If there's a Mod 5 youth, it's quality goods, too. Look at it this way. If she wants, is more comfortable with a bolt now, get the bolt. You did say "first rifle". It implies a second rifle. Besides, the trigger will be way better than most stock .22 semis. .17HMR? GlutealCleft, don't be a gluteal cleft. EVERYBODY'S first rifle should be a .22. It doesn't sound like she hunts; why on Earth would you saddle a novice with something so expensive to feed and LOUD? |

If there's a Mod 5 youth, it's quality goods, too. ? +1. My 5's not a youth, but it shoots great. Dime sized 10 shot groups at 60 yards, and good enough groups to kill rabbits consistently at 100. It actually is a "full weight" rifle too, and that's tough to find in a low to mid priced rimfire. ETA-See if you can get her to open her options to a lever action. It's a bit more than $250, but you can get a nice used Marlin 39A for $300 or so. $250 is possible, but harder to find. |

For a bolt action (magazine fed)...............and considering the price.............a Chinese Norinco JW15 is a good rifle. Though, you'll have to search for it USED as they are no longer imported. And, since you're looking at the USED section..........try a Ruger 10/22 (IMHO, make sure it has the metal trigger group). It is very easy to change the factory parts in order make a "custom rifle" for her. She'll love the idea of a "race rifle." Show her some gun porn at.............RimFireCentral.com http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69075 http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=302036 B&C Porn http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261282 Hogue Porn http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265970 IMHO.........she'll quickly "warm up" to the Ruger 10/22. Aloha, Mark PS..............I usually buy a factory stock Used Ruger 10/22 for about $150 where I live (but, price varys by region). And, they are getting harder to find at that price. You can slowly make mods as the budget allows. This is one of my favorite shopping places for Ruger 10/22 stuff (some items have free shipping)............ http://www.gunkings.com/ |

CZ 513 CZ 452 Training Rifle Marlin 925 Savage Mk II +1 The recall on the Savage rifle left me wanting. Any of the others will be amazingly accurate with some decent glass. Recall? I haven't heard or seen anything on this. Is there any way I could get a link as I was considering getting one really soon. Thanks Dolomite |
