| What is the largest rimfire out there? upper MI only alows rimfire for yote! |
| The problem is what is available now. In the "good old days," there were .50 rimfire trap door Springfield, and 50 something Spencer, but these days .22 rimfire magnum, 17 mags and the older 5mm Remington mag as well as .22 LR. I would probably go with the .22 mag, because I already have a tricked out 10/22 Mag. |

To answer your question .22 Mag is the largest most commonly available. That doesn't really address your problem. You might want to call the DNR to clarify the details.
I just checked again online Michigan DNR From what I can tell the only caliber restrictions for coyotes in zone one concerns trappers. When dispatching an coyote caught in a trap, fur harvesters are only allowed to use a rimfire of .22 caliber or smaller. If you are a trapper you wouldn't want to use anything bigger than a .22 as it devalues the fur. The restriction to rimfire involves safety. Generally trappers tend to take these shots at close range. At that range, a decent .22lr should suffice with proper shot placement. Shooting your AR towards the ground at anything 3-4 feet away is probably not the wisest move of the day. As far as I know, when hunting coyotes on a small game license, the only restrictions for centerfire rifles is magazine capacity. |
