Im having a hard time deciding on where to put my 15-22 LR, i have it in a AR case under my bed but i have a extremely hyper and curious 15 month old girl that runs and touches everything

the closet would be the next best thing, my closet is literally the opposite side of the room where i sleep and its right next to the bedroom door so if someone were to ninja his ass into my house and opened my door i would be screwed. but my daughters safety comes first.

where do you guys like to keep your ARs for "just in case" in your house?

There are long gun quick safes you can access in a couple of seconds.
Alternatively, a couple of hooks above the door INSIDE the closet; but she'll see you move it at some time or other and soner or later will be able to access it.
I take it this is your only gun?
My .45 is "hot" in a quick safe at the bedside.
The 8 shot 12ga pump is in a long gun quick safe about 2 steps from the bed.

The risk of your child encountering your firearm outweigh the chance of you using it to defend the homestead.  Lock it up.

I have small kids that's why I keep a nightstand gun (HK USP .45 or G20 10mm) w/X300 or X400's on them (mood).

But I don't have them chambered. Wifey can't even rack the slide on these weapons so the kids certainly can't although I lock the weapons in the safe when I'm out of bed (before them) or before bed (after them) or I carry (usually a G29).

I have a Mossy 590A tactical rigged out and nearby in my closet but is has a gun lock on it (key hidden very high up nearby) so all my 15-17 rounds of pistol ammo has to do is get me to the shotgun...

Or you could do what my daddy did.

Get rid of the kid.

yes its my only gun for now, i gave my baretta to my dad after 3 houses in his neighborhood got broken into. i might try the hooks thing, she is only 15 months so it will be a while before she is tall enough to get up there or be smart enough to get a chair lol

For  a cheap and quick solution you could just buy a $3 to $10 trigger lock.

Goes into the trigger guard, behind the trigger, locks and unlocks quickly with a key. Keeps weapon from being fired, quick to unlock when you need it. And unlike a cable lock you can keep a magazine in with the chamber unloaded.

ALSO....

You could keep the rifle in one place, put a magazine in your drawer or some other separate place. Some people practice that so that if the weapon is found it cannot be fired. Also if you have to retrieve the weapon it keeps you focused on the task since you have to load and charge the weapon. If you had a pistol, you could just keep it loaded in that drawer instead of a rifle mag.

I have some bad thoughts about you defending the homestead with the 15-22 and think there are better options....but since that's not what you asked, I'll be respectful and not make any comment.

In FL its illegal to have a firearm stored where it is easily accessible to a minor and the owner of the firearm is responsible for whatever the minor does with it. You have to lock it up in a safe or put locks on it so the minor cannot operate the weapon. Check your state laws and see what you have to do to stay legal.

Really?  Because my son would have been all over that if he knew it could be opened.  I'd wind up finding sticks, screwdrivers, toy trucks, and a butter knife laying around it with the action wide open.

Kids can be scarily ingenious.

Build a strong box out of 3/4 inch thick plywood that is thin enough to slide under the bed.  Add a combination padlock.  I use one with individual tumblers that is easy to unlock quickly.

This is the lock:

Why not keep the mag & rifle separate? Keep the mag up high where the youngin can't reach it?

IN some states, if the gun s not "secured" owners have been held liable for the use of their guns
even in accidents.  I say pot a a quick locking device. or the best LOCK it up in a safe.
All my guns are in a safe.  My home defense gun is by the bed in a quick open safe.
I would rather have the gun locked up before one of my 2 childern try to play with the gun.
I have raised them around guns, they respect them, but it only takes on time.

well its purpose its mainly to shoot around, plinking and stuff like that on my off days but ill have on stand by "just in case". the gun i had to protect the homestead was my baretta but i gave that to my father. my homestead gun will be a pistol, something i can easily put in a little safe by my bed with easy reach. im saving up to get a nice 1911, sig sauer P226 or maybe HK .45....i havent quite decided yet lol

Thanks for the info though

Yeah, after I read your posts I realized you had no other option it seems. I've been in that situation before where the semi auto .22 rifle was all I had. It was intended for plinking but for whatever reason I was left with it as my only asset for an extended amount of time.

If it's the money, then while you're saving up don't be afraid to use a less expensive Sigma or Hi-Point as a short stop on your way to that 1911 or Sig. You can always sell it later along the line. Better to have a better defensive caliber in the meantime to cover the dead space between owning that high quality pistol. Just want to see you safe bud .

And seriously, come on down to the HTF.

ETA : It's spelled Beretta.....

PT-145 next to my bed (top draw), mossy 12 under the bed.
Clips and 3" shells in a small digital safe in the bottom draw of my night stand. no locks on the guns..

I can have either ready for business in seconds.

Pt-145 has a locking system but finding my keys in the middle of the night might take awhile...lol so I practice the store separate rule...

Beside I started teaching my kids gun safety at 4-ish with their Daisy. So they know what not to do.

I got a 6yr old prob out shoot most of us and she has to shoot with the stock under her arm pit shes so little.. lol

Keep the little ones safe by all means...

IMHO
