I haven't owned a 22 for a several years. I have read very little but think I want to put a 17M2 together.

I found a used Magnum Research 17 inch composite barrel and bolt kit. I hopefully will find a used Ruger 10/22 at a local gun show or pawn shop. I have read about the trigger on the Ruger and plan on replacing it.

My question is about the used Magnum Research barrel and bolt kit. Are the composite barrels and bolt kit from Magnum Research OK??

Is the 17" barrel long enough for out to 100 or more yards??

Any ammo to stay away from?

All help and advise is appreciated

nope, there is only 5 types of 17m2 ammo, plus 2 types of 17 Aguila rounds.  all work accurately.  the mach 2 is a funny little thing, especially in it's pressure spike.  I would go over to rimfirecentral.com , and ask questions on the m2 threads, also I would look up a dude named Skeeter27red; he has proly the most experience on the 17m2, builds, new , conversions, semi auto, etc., than you can find anywhere.  He also makes specialized parts for the m2 conversions, that work better than any other factory stuff anywhere.

I think you covered it!
My 10/17 with Rimfire Technologies(Skeeter) parts. So far it has run flawless.
