So I finally got my fiance into shooting but I have some walls I am running into.  She loves shooting .22 lr's, however, my 10/22 with the ramline folder has too long a LOP for her (she is the second shortest setting on a AR collapsible stock).  She also said it was kind of heavy and so she prefered shooting my P22.  So my question is what .22 lr rifles can I get with a short LOP and very light weight?  I thought about the survival rifles that can be dissasembled and put in the stock but I am not sure how durable those are.

     A couple of the survial rifles that I have played with have been none too great. Poor triggers,unreliable action and funny shaped stocks. Try to find spare mags!
     "heavy" feel in a rifle is usually due to a too long stock or bad ballance more than the actual weight.

     I would recomend a carbine AR (lightweight better than m4 type) and a collapsible stock with a Ceiner. It gives you good sights and trigger,easily mounted optics and other options. Needless to say it is a natural steeping stone to haveing her shoot the AR itself .

     Another way is buy a 10/22 with a standard barrel and wood stock and start sawing away at the stock untill you get a good fit. Again the best add ons are out there and available anywhere. You  might be surprised how well a stock 10/22 shoots when the nasty factory trigger is fixed up!

     If you make a short gun out of most 22's out there you are stuck with a midget gun pretty much forever. With the 10/22 there is always aftermarket stuff to build it back up again.

I don't know if this will be of any help but Ruger made a Youth model 10/22CRR. Sorry to say it's been discontinued but there may be some found at gun shows or (if you own a 10/22) locate the youth stock for sale (or duplicate it).

The specs for the 10/22CRR are;
10/22 Compact Rifle features a compact, rifle-style stock with a short, 12 3/4" length of pull, 16 1/8" barrel, fiber-optic front and rear sights, a flat butt-pad, and a clear magazine with red rotor.

find some oldies; a marlin 99, 989, 99m1, 70,75, 75c, the 70 papoose would be excellent.
also a marlin mag fed mod 25 , old or new , is very good.  for new, the mossberg plinkster, is about as light as it gets, and they are reasonably reliable and accurate, with a fully adjustable rear sight, it is also gonna be between 100 and 130 bucks.
then i would try the semi auto , Savage 64.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Any AR is a no-go as they are much heavier than a 10/22.  I think I have my original wood stock maybe I will rework it to be perfect for her.  maybe even a little paint job.

Was going to suggest the Ruger youth but someone beat me to it. The lightest .22 I know of that it reliable though is the Remington Nylon 66. VERY light and runs like a tank.
