I have been thinking about buying a high quality .22 bolt action to use for training.  I would shoot it at 100 yds with match ammo at the 1000 yard reduced size palma targets.  This way I could shoot a lot more for less $$$.

Has anyone else done this?  Any suggestions for a set up?  I was thinking of using his rifle .22 Rifle

How good are they?  How good of a group would be average?  Is there another rifle I should be looking at in the same price range?

If you are looking for a modern day rifle, the best rifle for the money is easily the CZ line of rifles.  Also a Biathalon basic.  If you have twice that money to spend, go with an Anschutz, or a Finnish Lion.  Heck , even a Marlin 7000 or 2000 will be much better than the ruger.
