I'd like to lighten up my standard plain jane 10/22 for my 10-year old. What's it going to take?

Tell me the cheap bastard route.
Tell me the moderate way.
Tell me what to do if money grew on trees.

Carbon fiber barrel
Dragunov stock or Butler Creek folding stock

Money Grows on trees way (like I did)

Magnum Research MagnumLite Graphite barrel (13 oz.) ($280)
Titanium internals (lighter and stronger than steel) Power custom "Grand Master" kit ($200) plus Titanium Extractor ($10), Titanium Firing pin ($30), Titanium bolt release ($20)
Hogue overmolded stock. ($80)
Buffer Technologies bolt buffer ($10) replaces steel bolt stop pin with nylon pin

I estimate the gun weighs around 3-4 pounds without the scope attached...

Looks similar to this:

vq carbon fiber tension bbl.
hogue or butler creek stock
bolt worked over by cpc
weaponkraft bolt buffer
kidd trigger group
tuned factory rotory mags
suppressor

but your best bet is short barrel rifle

Actually, at SHOT, Magnum Research had a 10/22 pistol with a short (8" I think) graphite barrel. Pretty light...

I have no idea as I write this how much my 10/22 carbine weighs with the scope attached, but it is pretty damn light.

Ruger website sys it weighs 5 pounds from the factory, and you don't think your 10 YO can handle 5 pounds?

You could also look at a Whistlepig barrel, they are light.

You can get a hogue overmold stock at CDNN for like 45 bucks, iirc.
