If you don't wear camo at work or in your civvie clothing I got this green one (size large) new in wrap off ebay for approximately $81 and $34 postage from England. The price apparently covered import tariff because it cleared customs without additional billing. A GI poly fleece "Smoker's Jacket" or field jacket liner makes it comfortable down to the 20s. It was an additional $14 (shipping included) for a proper American-side YKK #10 zipper from New York I installed myself. They list it as olive but it's closer to a grey-green (not Ranger Green). Smock arrived and I am very pleased. It is pretty much an Arktis B211 that is less expensive and lighter weight. That is what I was hoping for because I wanted a warm weather smock. I pulled very hard on a lot of the seams, buttons, pockets, and vegetation loops. None of them gave in the least. I am 5’11”, 200 pounds and muscular. 48 chest with broad shoulders and a very wide back. The XL was tight in the shoulders when worn over the t-shirt and thick flannel I had on. It fits perfectly with just the t-shirt, which is what I bought it for. The Canadian buttons are larger ( about the size of a 50 cent piece) and thick. It has all the same pockets as the B211, including the large inside pocket behind the ass. All the pockets have a tab and D ring for attachments. I pulled hard on those too and none gave. The hood is large enough to go over a ball or beanie hat, but I don’t think it would go over a kevlar. Maybe a smaller bump helmet would work. The pit zippers go from just below my elbow up and all the way to the bottom of lats. The elbow pads line up with my forearms, not my elbows. The front zipper is American style. The ripstop looks very well made. It is maybe a little less than 2/3 the weight of my B211’s. I poured some water over parts of it and the water ran right off. All the pockets do have grommet drain holes. It is definitely a great purchase. Edit: It has an English zipper on the left side. I’m ambidextrous so it doesn’t bother me, so I didn’t take notice yesterday. I noticed today because I am experimenting with it today. Attached File Attached File |

regarding that MFH smock, there is MFH, 101inc and Miltec that offer what looks like the same model (which is btw like a cross between the arktis sniper smock and the german special forces one). I have the Miltec one, which is called the "lightweight smock" (they used have a different "heavy weight" one that i may show sometimes). Honestly it is my most worn one for the field in non-army things and despite the scorn i got from other guys for buying such an airsoft type of thing i have to say it had held fine. it costed way less at the time (10+ years ago) and is cheaper than the MFH which i never had but i saw a video on youtube on someone with the two side by side saying that the MFH was of better quality than the miltec one. the elbow protection is placed in the same place as the other more expensive ones but i noticed that when shooting in the traditional army prone style it tends to rise enough when bending the elbows to offer some protection. There is a sleeve pouch that is sized for the old german Field dressing that is large and offer just a little retention if you carry items other than brick shaped dressing or similar, you may want to sew it down or add cord or elastic. i kept the wire in the hood even if many just remove it.      this is the useless sleeve pocket  the other sleeve pocket is just a pen pocket

the loops are foliage loops (it's the "sniper smock" part they copied) the tape over buttons is 90% look, 10% to alleviate snagging and protect the threads on the buttons, a holdover from before 1995 when buttons were standard and sewn on with thread and not the canadian ones attached with half inch fabric tape. |

i won't lie, these are cool. very european in style, they only left behind the external poachers pocket. I sometimes like uncovered buttons more in smocks, i also think that all those velcro and thick lid in arm pocket is not comfortable. i think it's the weak point in my beloved TacGear smocks. Maybe tomorrow i will load some pics of some smocks to see how they designed them. in the meanwhile i don't know if they are available in US but French have their Felin uniforms that come with a smock like jacket that is meant to be armor and chest rig friendly and has a couple lower pockets plus a poachers pocket. they are cheap in europe. a couple variants exist (with or without upper pockets or hood, hot or temperate weather), the desert one is a lighter weight  |

| I bought a Large windproof MTP Smock from Americana Pipe Dream. The hood storage with the button is a little odd and I could do without fleece pockets in favor of mesh. But otherwise a good buy for $50. I think they are all out of size Large and up. |

I'm not sure how complicated it is to do, but I've seen it done. But for the money, they're hard to beat. Especially the desert ones, which can be obtained in the $20ish range if you look around. |
