Yeah, the XL is much, much better. I normarlly wear large, but with the removable liner, it wasn't working and without the liner, it felt like a fitted jacket. While the XL is roomier, it's much better for field use for either layering or maneuvering. Baggier is better for these garments. Great piece of kit. ROCK6 |

I broke down and bought a MFH in OD. LOL it’s pocket overload. I’m worried I’m going to put something in there, and not find it for 10 years. As the earlier poster said, the elbow pads are kind of silly, but easy to remove. Otherwise, I like it. With all the pockets filled I’d look like a green Michelin man. |

cutting sleeves off a smock don't make it the same garment as a vest. Maybe the same concept but not the same fit and interface with other clothing or gear. In my career i saw lot of smocks, lot of fishing/safari/hiking vests (the PSD/Low visibility type of guys) but never a sleeveless smock That said i love photographer and safari type vest as they are practical outdoor garments. I have that Domke one i picked up 2nd hand for 5$ (you know, photographers don't carry that junk anymore) and indeed it's the highest quality and capacity one i have (also the largest in size). Mine has a different back closure for the back pouches (that hold canteens well) |

The one that became the ubiquitous 5.11 'shoot me first' vest. If it were a different fabric (lighter weight and more breathable), smock style pockets, and buttons instead of the zipper, it'd be awesome. I especially like the rear water bottle pockets. I could deal with everything else even if the pockets were just updated. When I think of a sleeveless smock, I think of a mashup of a British style smock with that vest. Something that allows you to carry a minimal loadout in the woods without having to wear a bunch of gear. Maybe a basic warbelt to carry a pistol or something. It'd be a great 'play around in the woods' vest. And of course for fishing in the river. (we get out in the river and wade in it while fishing up here in the mountains) Which if what I used it for when I was younger, fishing in the river. That, my fly rod or ultralight spinning rod and a catch basket. I've since slimmed it down to a modded USGI surplus canteen pouch with a nalgene bottle in it (for water), two small altoids tins in the side pockets with lures or flies, and a couple tools shock-corded to the pouch. I'm the local fishing bum basically - old tennis shoes and a pair of battered BDU's. Screw waders and all that. I’m not a believer in the “cut the lining out and it’s now a ‘hot weather’ smock” concept - it’s 107 here… liner or not you load up those pockets and try to do anything and you’re going to hate it pretty quick. Of course, if you’re in a situation where you’re carrying gear on your back and (heaven forbid) wearing body armor, the smock is the least of your worries… |

There are some hot weather smocks / anoraks / 'partizan suits' out there. But they aren't the classic British Smock. Though I include them in the same category because they serve the same basic role. |

Bro I think your ad’s down. I’d been considering it as a travel jacket after I wore out my last one. I’m an L/L or L/T in most military sizing. The Platatac others mentioned is a great smock. They were unloading the bunnyflage several years back and they must have been going for $20-30 even to the US. I keep one in my truck as backup/girl is cold type of thing. Then Kommandostore started selling off Arktis’s “Optiview” Multicam knockoff, basically a blurred edge variant. Which works well in my AOR. I kept shifting sizing and buying hats and rain shells and ended up with probably a lifetime supply of combat pants. Then the Swedish M90 110 smock, which lives in the PNW. So I’m at three smocks. Plus the Wetworx summer mesh hoodie. That Platatac Rhodie brushstroke has my attention… |

The smock sold. Of course it went to buy more unnecessary gear but that is the nature of the beast  I still have my First Spear Squadron Smock which is a beast. The Hill People Gear Wind Cheater, though not technically a smock, is a great layer by itself when its somewhat warm, or an outer layer when it is hot. I also managed to wrangle a unicorn; the SORD smock. Great piece of kit. If you do find yourself wanting a Platatac smock, they do offer sales. I think their biggest one just passed; it was their EOFY sale. I managed to get a split front chest rig, shipped from Australia, for cheaper than I could buy it (if I could have found it) stateside. |

They're pretty similar to most of the higher end smocks (they're all generally about the same), but they have a reputation for being one of the better fitting ones. They also have the pockets in the right places, are just a single layer instead of having liners, they have pit zips, etc. ie, the good features you want on smocks. I like my three SORD smocks better than the others I have. Their new updated smocks have the same basic layout, but use Crye's VTX Stretch Ripstop NYCO fabric and have a zipper to allow you to zip in a grid-fleece liner. One of the Australian guys I know got one of the prototype new SORD smocks and he says it's the best smock he's seen. The new SORD Smock:  They also have a hot weather anorak that is similar to the Russian Partizan suit. Made out of the same fabric as the new SORD smock, lots of venting.

My new site is going to be selling the stuff I make here, but I'm also going to be sourcing belt kit associated gear - packs and stuff for packs that work with belt kits, smocks, other belt kits made by other people, etc. And British and Australian style gear. Basically I'm aiming to make it 'Belt Kit Central', full of 'Ally Gear'. I'm also partnering up with alot of small cottage shops, here in the USA and down in Australia, to provide a central place to sell their gear. Basically have a fully-featured selection of gear, most of it made by small shops - the kind of shop that is a small family run shop and that specializes in one or two items. I'm still looking into making my own smocks eventually, but right now I've got the SORD smocks, which are pretty nice. Smocks are going to be one of the major things I want to carry. I quite like smocks. |
