I am currently working Armed Security, Personal Security and I am having a hard time choosing what size plates I should purchase.

I am 5'7 - 165 pounds. It is either 8X10 or 10X12 AR500 plates. Just wanted to hear the opinions of others with experience in this field.

Thank you very much.

Likely a size medium. I'm 6' 200lb and wear a large esapi.

Plates should cover both nipples and sit high on the chest, even with the sternum and you should be able to sit in a chair without the plate being pushed up by your hips. Remember you are just protecting your vital organs, not your whole torso.

Make a sample out of a piece of cardboard. I'll bet on a 10x12 for you.

plate should be from the top of the sternum to above the navel; 10x12, which is about size medium in SAPI sizing should fit you just fine.

Thank you all very much for the feedback. I really appreciate it, one more if I may. Any companies that you think are top of the line and/or better than some? I am looking at AR500 but would love any other feedback on other companies. Thank you.

usually, the more expensive the plate, the lighter it will be. and any ESAPI plate you see online is stolen government property, and they do come calling for it.

Sternum notch to belly button, and nipple to nipple. There's a great pic I think in the plate carrier thread that shows what a plate covers anatomically.

A good roll up of plate armor data to include sizing in the link, should help with your decision.  Please note 10x12 can sometimes mean "kinda 10x12" from some manufacturers.
