Titanium is a terrible ballistic material. I still cannot fathom how it ever got incorporated into body armor.
Titanium is tough. It is not hard. Titanium Rockwell runs around the mid to upper thirties, depending on what you're working with. The hardest variants only get to the low 40's on the Rockwell C Scale. If you shoot it, it won't shatter or break but it does almost nothing to stop a bullet. Using Titanium in armor is a gimmick, probably because the word "Titanium" sounds cool. |
