| Looking at getting a pair for hunting season.... Do they really only last 6 months? Is there anything else I should know about them? |
|
I use the EP3s underneath stereo electronic muffs for most shooting. Still easy to have a conversation, but it definitely takes the edge off when I'm shooting in an awkward position (like anything utilizing a 9 hole barricade) and my eyepro breaks the seal on my muffs.
I can comfortably shoot .308 indoors like that. Never had an issue with them wearing out in 6 months, but I typically only wear them one day a week. |

I wear a Plantronics headset full time. It uses an earpiece that is like the SureFire plugs. Based upon this, here is my opinion:
If you wear them 'all the time' (8 hours a day, five days a week), then yes, you'll probably need to replace them once or twice per year. If you are just a normal shooter, and wear them a couple of times per month, they'll last a pretty long time. Once in a while, clean them in warm, soapy water. |

My wife purchased a pair in June and she's been shooting about four times with me since she got them. She's not happy with the fit and we ended up just ordering her some Peltor TAC 6's. I went shooting a few weeks ago and only had my SF plugs. I went home with both ears ringing like I wasn't wearing anything. I would have been better off stuffing a 9mm round in each ear. They are too expensive for me to keep experimenting with them. SF plugs are dead to me. |

You basically take what they give you and there is no guarantee that they're going to work for you. Plus, they're disposable and not designed to last forever. I think if you're serious about shooting and going on a regular basis (i.e. at least twice a month) you're better off getting some electronic muffs. I belong to a Shooting Club where I can use their pistol and rifle ranges for free as a member so I go almost every weekend unless works gets in the way. For me, my COMTAC IIs are great investment as I'm always comfortable with them and they've held up well. |
