I want a level 3A plate carrier and ceramic plates to take me to level 4.

I talked to Bulletproof me today and Tim was unbelievably helpful.

I am squared away with a Turtle and some thin plates that give me level 4 when worn with the 3A carrier. Upper sleeves too.

I will need mobility in body armor to the extent that I would be defending a residence in a rural area, and perhaps on foot in woods for limited patrols, maybe even wearing it during tactical vehicular transport. I would need to be able to jump in and out of a vehicle and tactically move. However, not 7 hour wear all day stuff. Not every day armor. No 3 hour foot patrols. Just SHTF taken seriously and a healthy budget to buy it right.

Does anyone have this gear??

Alternate set ups?

Thoughts??

That is not an optimal solution for the requirements you described.

Yes! Armor is always a trade off in weight/mobility vs protection.  Especially when around vehicles.  The turtle is great if you are riding around in the back of a limo or 'sitting' (read "not standing") watch.  It will become hot, heavy, and cumbersome to enter/exit a vehicle... or anywhere for that matter.

There are better options out there for what you have described.  I would recommend a layered system, like soft armor concealable vest, plate carrier, then chest rig.  That way they can be worn one/two/all at a time depending on your mission and what you are doing.

I would take a hard look at some good concealable armor and then a Pig Systema or mayflower set up.

I think you made a perfect choice.  The turtle offers the most coverage short of a bomb suit.  Chances are that you will never need it.  However, if ever someone is shooting at you, the one thing that you will never think to yourself is "I wish I had less armor coverage"!!!  The weight and restriction of movement can be dealt with by training and familiarity.  As many self-reliant men think, it's better to have and hope to never need than it is to need and not have.

Just a remeinder to myself and a plea to others;  As gun owners, let us hold ourselves to a very high standard of tolerance, calmness and seekers of compromise, justice for all and the rule of civilized behavior.  Even to those who dissagree with us.  Sorry for the subjective philosophical thought, i know it was off subject.

Just a few things:

1. Like you said, Tim and Bulletproofme.com were SUPER helpful with my questions. Their customer service is second to none, and believe me, other vendors did not even want to deal with my questions when I mentioned "Afghanistan." I work in security in Afghanistan, and I was thinking of purchasing two types of body armor for different types of mission applications. I eventually went with the Interceptor OTV and the Blackhawk Cutaway. It was a huge mess getting them shipped here, and it cost me an arm and a leg to get them delivered, but Tim was there from start to finish and they arrived safely.

2. After 6 months of having both vests, I rarely used the OTV and opted for the BH Cutaway because we were more likely to encounter a complex attack situation and I can't afford the time to don the OTV when there are Talis attempting to breach our perimeter. I did ask about the Turtle to Tim, and he was very honest about it, that I wasn't going to need something that bulky and recommended the OTV instead.

3. I think you are in a similar situation like me, where you have to either be wearing your armor on a regular basis, or have to don it like REALLY fast and deploy rapidly. You won't be able to do that with the Turtle vest because 1) it does look like it will restrict your mobility capabilities in a situation where you have to be constantly on the move to engage and neutralize the threat, not to mention that it will fatigue you out faster and will limit your flexibility, and 2) you probably don't need all that extra bulkiness and weight while you are on stand-to.

4. I already wrote to Tim again asking for a quote for a TAG Banshee Coyote. Hoping to pick it up on my next leave in a few weeks.
