I have two M951 lights on my rifles, both with incandescent lamps.

TNVC used to have a drop-in module that put out 600 lumens, but seems to have discontinued it.

What's the best bang for the buck for these things? Blistering output with minimal modification?

I've looked at the Malkof website and their offerings are somewhat confusing as to adapters etc.

Id sell those outdated bricks and grab some Scout lights. They are always in the EE for really reasonable prices. They are smaller, brighter and lighter

Thanks - The last two look good. However, input says between 7.2VDC and 18VDC. How will that work with the M951's 2 CR123a (6VDC)?

I like the old ones. They look good, and can be had VERY cheap... Plus they look good on my Short 'N Uglies...

Here you go. Got one and it is very bright... Like four times and a lot whiter than the incandescent. Let them know it's for a 951 and they will fix it where it drops right in. Great guys to deal with.

In addition to the choices already listed, here are some more:

If you want to stay with Surefire and put an LED head on it, Primary Arms is running 30% off Surefire with SURE30 code, ends at midnight PST:  KX4D with strike bezel or less wicked round bezel.

Or you could try a Cree drop-in module from CustomLites.

Good luck.

I hate to say it, but I have had great luck with the $12 LED drop in lamps off Amazon. They ones I got are advertised at 450 lumens, I don't know that they really produce that. but they are as bright as I need, and brighter than my 200 lumen SF Scout Light heads.

It has two springs on it. Take the large one off for a 951/952 or 6P/G2 install.

Surefire 950 series lights are fine lights, i have one myself. They are great and are very rugged. The only thing to consider upgrading is the emitter. Either to an aftermarket if you just want output or to a surefire selectable bezel assembly if you want IR compatiblity. The body and configuration of the lights are still in date, they are just more ruggedly build than the scouts (and give you more options with accessories). There is a reason tons of folks still use the 950 series. They are good lights.

ETA: I believe they use the same emitter as the G2. However for some reason I remember having a problem trying to drop in an LED conversion that's normally in my G2. I may have that wrong and could be confusing that with the Surefire lighted forend for my 870.

I was out of town all week for training but when I got back this was waiting for me.

Thanks for posting this.
It's a 100 times better then the factory bulb in my Surefire Z2.

For the $14 I think it cost, it's a great little upgrade.

Got it today. As I suspected, shipped straight from China.

Installed it in my wife's G2 with fresh batteries. I have to admit, it's bright. Very bright.

There's a really lousy beam though, so at 15 yards, there's virtually no focus point, all washed out. That's where it loses it's performance IMHO.

All in all not bad for the money I spent on it.

I blew up one of my 450s... I made the mistake of putting it on a G3 body. It was insanely bright for about a minute. Now its about 1 lumen. I guess you can overdrive them. Oh well.
