I picked up a Interceptor IBA from a friend and while it has has the soft armor and other attachment no plates. He had to return those when he left the service. Do this system require special plate or will standard 10x12 plates fit. I am a armor noob here but need to know if it is worth looking for plates or keeping as is and purchasing a standard plate carrier as it is fits perfect right now and am a bit worried that plates may tighten is up to much to be comfortable. My other option it to sell it to a small framed if it turns out that way. Thanks in advance

A commercial 10x12 (which is actually about 9.5x11.5) would fit best in a Medium IBA vest. It will of course fit in a larger vest, but the plate pocket will be oversized for the plate. I wouldn't expect to be able to shove a commercial 10x12 in a small or XS plate pocket. Extra Small - (7¼ x 11½ in) Small - (8¾ x 11¾ in) Medium - (9½ x 12½ in) Large - (10¼ x 13¼ in) Extra Large - (11 x 14 in) |

No plates because he had to return those, but the IBA itself is his? NOPE. You've got your hands on some stolen government property. Good job. They can be purchased legally from a number of sources, including Point Blank itself. Not every piece of "issued" equipment is stolen. |

Care to wager a paycheck on that? Its probably not official procedure but i had several friends in the Marines and they would bring home gear all the time, basically worn out stuff that would get thrown away anyways, rather than check it back into the armory, have them inspect it and then throw it in a dumpster, their commanding officer would just tell them to keep it. Makes sense for something like a IBA, the officer knows theyre getting new vests and just tells them take it home with them, makes the soldiers happy and doesnt waste space in a landfill. So is it stolen? i suppose technically yes, but i dont foresee the gov tracking you down for a IBA hahaha. Also as you have said the armor does make its way to legit channels or was just made directly for civ sales. Almost all of my gear is "mil-spec" that doesnt mean it was stolen... |

Care to wager a paycheck on that? I definitely would not wager a paycheck on much of anything, nor will I ever accuse someone of a crime on a public website based on an assumption, no matter what the odds. OP, its a good vest, I wore one longer than I cared to in Iraq but am more than happy with its replacement. There are better fitting, lighter armor systems out there, I wouldn't invest much in the IBA platform these days with the options available. |

There is a series of paper work to do that, no one just says fuck it, you can keep it. It also doesnt fall off their records either. US gov wants it back even if it is destroyed or an ungodly amount of paperwork saying that it aint coming back. That IBA probably doesnt have a SN but newer version do. |

Who cares how he got it?
If you're not the owner, what does it matter to you? Is his having IBA causing any great distress or harm to you and yours? If you feel the need to inform him it might be illegal, shoot him a PM, but dont accuse him of a crime without knowing the details |

You could be right, I personally have never been in the mil and am just repeating stories I have heard. |

Dude, you wouldn't believe how much shit we just threw away before leaving Iraq in 2004. Unless you been there and actually done it, stfu. |

The IBA is a good, but obsolete, vest. For free fifty-free though there's nothing wrong with it. I would be concerned about the condition of the soft armor for real world used though. Vest are not regulated in terms of care, and I don't know if the Army even inspects soft armor when they're turned back into CIF. Good training vest, though.
Plus if you're ever riding in the hatch in a Bradley they're great for keeping you from getting beat to hell |

Uh dude, I have been there and done it four times over, so STFU. We threw a metric fuck ton of stuff out or transferred it to the host nation and you better believe that it got put on a piece of paper somewhere. I have woodland, desert, acu, and multicam on my clothing records. A lot of it wont ever be used by anyone else, but Uncle Sam wants it all back. It doesnt matter how fucked up it is, they want it back or someone with brass on their chest to say its totallled. Have dudes gotten the hook up and were able to keep their body armor? Sure has but they had to convince someone to do the paperwork and take a small risk to their career(fraud) to make it happen. Once in a blue moon might be the short answer.
