Has anyone heard of or tried or used the AR 500 plates? They are very inexpensive but I was jsut wondering if anyone had any experience with them

I shoot at his targets.

That plate will stop rifle fire cold.
Pistol fire doesn't even touch it.

I know that you're probably more concerned with practical use of the plates as armor but just so you know, that stuff works.

I just got my plates in from the target man. Got them in the group buy. Make sure you get the coated ones so that spalling is not an issue for you, (look it up if you havent) but other than the weight difference, they are superior in hit protection from the ceramics from everything i have seen. Good quality from target man too.

The only problem i see is the prices he gives in the post and the ones on his site are different

+1 for The Target Man.

I have a set that are primarily used for training and PT.  They simulate the weight and bulk of ceramic plates just fine and are also just about indestructible.  I also toss them in the trunk of the car somtimes (not a LEO or anything) as a spare set of temperature insensitive plates.  I think they'd be a fine starting place to try out a plate carrier rig before you drop the coin on level 4 ceramic plates.

Yep. That's the cost for raw plates tho, you will want the coated plates so add like $30 or something like that.
