Hey all,

I have an old (pre-2000s) Blackhawk 3 day assault pack that I use for hiking and camping.  It's been a good little pack, but it is a little small for some comfort items that I like to

carry.  I ordered one Blackhawks 3 Day Pack Accessory Pouch kits, which include 2 detachable side pockets, and a sleeping bag stuff sack that attaches to the bottom of the

pack, because, well, they were the only pouches I could find.  The only problem is my pack is black, and the pouches are ARPAT or whatever.  I'm not looking to look tacticool

or anything, so does anyone know if the stuff Blackhawk uses can be dyed well with something like RIT or any other dye?  And if it can, how well does it take the dye?

Any help or infor would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Rit definitely works.
My advice from experience, add more dye than you think you'll need. Also, since nylon seems to lighten up as it dries aged it's RIT bath, dye it for longer after you've achieved the color you're after.

Where did you pick up the Accessory Pouch Kit?

Rit black dye, HOT water, a half-cup of salt, and you should be GTG.  You are dyeing a few pouches as I understand it, so a single packet/bottle of dye should suffice in mebbe 3 gals of HOT water.  Add the salt, stir WELL, and dunk the stuff, turning it over and over so the dye goes everywhere.  Leave the stuff soaking for a while, as you want the dye to set-in deeply, just turn it over/around every once in a while.  One thing I would add is that you look around for anything else that you want to dye black before starting, as it is annoying to find something that needed some dye just after dumping out the dye solution.

Blackhawk had the only ones I could find from a source that looked reputable.  They were, or are, having a clearance sale on them.  I don't think they, or Eagle, make the kits

anymore.  Hope it helps.
