Im going to be taking my first carbine class with Costa in June, and I have no experience with chest rigs, battle belts, or PC's. I plan to get a PC in the future but right now I want something to run in the class to carry extra mags, etc. What works best?
Thanks––Josh |

Quoted: Two Ready Tactical belt mounted AR mag pouches from SKD, two Ready Tactical pistol mag pouches from SKD, and a good belt from Wilderness or Ares Gear. Bring lots of mags and rotate as necessary. No sense buying a bunch of stuff that might not work for you. I agree. Just use a bag to hold the rest of your mags when they're not on your belt. If you don't have any experience with those other systems, those mag holders will help you figure out what fits your style |

I would go minimal with a belt and a couple mag holders each for pistol and carbine. Watch and listen to advice from others at the class and figure out what you like/need from that experience. yea I think Im going to take this approach.I already have an ares belt and a raven holster and pistol mag carriers. Ill just get a couple ar mag carriers and take the class and go from there. thanks guys for the help. |

Might wanna look at this for a simple starter kit:
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-03-MSF-Chest-Harness-s/124.htm You can add two more rifle mag pouches and mount a double or triple pistol mag pouch on top of the PALS webbing on the rifle mag pouches for a good all in one setup, til you get into the more sophisticated and complicated setups. It'll get the job done and it won't kill your pocket like buying an entire combat rig at once would, and that's not including armor. |

I used a Wilderness belt with my Glock in a CompTac holster and 2 pistol mag carriers, a single AR mag carrier on my left hip for my "go to" mag, and a dump pouch on my back. I would have liked to carry another AR mag, but I don't have enough real estate on my belt. I ended up carrying extra mags in my back pockets to refill my "go to pouch". For Kyle's course, that was enough. With that experience, if I were to take a course with long strings of fire requiring multiple mags, I would add a small low profile chest rig. I ended up getting an OSOE pals rig with 4 single shingles to keep it thin. I find stacked mags are too thick when my carbine is slung across my chest. You can then refill your belt pouches from the chest rig to keep in the habit of going to your "go to pouch" for the carbine reload. I highly recommend the Eagle FB pouch for your belt mounted AR mags. Once broken in, it held the mag securely but was still very fast. There are belt and molle versions. I also recommend a dump pouch so you aren't leaving your empties all over the range. Other than that, have fun. I thought I would be under prepared with my simple belt rig, but it turns out, many of the guys showed up like me with KISS type setups, and even the instructors had similar setups on their warbelts. |
