What are you guys using these days. I always just use foam plugs or the Surefire ones. I have a little extra money this month and i'm thinking about kicking out for some good electronic muffs... I want something good that will stay on my head during run and gun drills...something I can put on my head and forget about.

Thanks,

I don't have any comm gear, so I went with Howard Leight Impact Sports.  They're in the ballpark of fifty bucks, and seem to work well.  I had a really nice pair of Peltor Comtacs with two radio hookups and the behind-the-neck wire, and I traded them away through the EE - the cables weighed them down and kept pulling them off my head, I found them almost impossible to use without having a radio hooked up to at least one cable.

As far as comparison between the two, I noticed the Comtacs blocked noise much more precisely, as an example the Comtacs would always block even the sound of a slide racking at arm's length, whereas the Howard Leights do not block that particular noise unless the slide is racked much closer to the face, as when cleaning the gun.  However, the Comtacs did not sound as clear as the Howard Leights do when they are not blocking noise, and the Leights seem to preserve directional sense better.  I wore each headset around the house for a day before I made my mind up and traded away the Peltors, haven't regretted it once.  Again though, this is because I only need earpro and the Peltors are also a communications headset, so I am in no way trying to say they suck - they're just too much bang for my buck, like buying an iPhone just to play music occasionally.

I use MSA Sordin Pro-X behind the head noise canceling headphones.   They are completely waterproof against rain, sweat, etc. They also have a five year warranty which none of the other brands have more than a 90 day warranty.  The MSAs have a headset jack to connect to comms or an MP3 player.

I will look into these. Do they stay put?

ETA: Damn these look nice but a little more than I want to spend lol

I have been looking at some of these so I can wear a boonie hat to keep the sun off my ears.  Would they be suitable for that as far as comfort goes?  What about cheek weld do you have any problems?

The behind the head model is perfect for wearing baseball caps or boonie hats with them.  They stay put really well when running around.  They are pricey, but so are the Peltor Comtac 2s, and the warranty on the MSA's is five years.  So like any good quality gun, buy once, cry once.

I don't have any issues with cheek weld as they are fairly low profile compared to most of the competitors.  The sound quality is top notch and very crisp and clear.   Everyone that tries them out automaitcally puts them on their Christmas list :)

Peltor Tacitcal 7 Classics also have a two prong hookup (requires Peltor cable) to be used with an audio input device (MP3, radio, etc).

MSA Sordin Supreme Pros... I've had them for about 6 years now.  I use them for USPSA/IDPA/3-gun, and they stay put all the time.  They also fit under my ACH when I wore them deployed and to stateside training events.

Best feature for me?  They turn themselves off, so they aren't dead every time you go to use them.

The Howard Leights are much better than the Peltor's. Much much better.

Howards are good, and cheaply priced, but they are thicker than Peltor's and MSA Sordins.  And the warranty is poor.  But at $50 or less for ear pro, I guess they are dispossable.after a year or so of semi-hard use.  Just don't get them wet!

Howard Leight Impact Sports.  Same pair for 3 years or so, I have given away several sets as gifts too and heard a lot of good feedback.

When you say get them wet. Do you mean soaking or what. We train no matter what the weather does...

Peltor Tac6's.  My only beef about them is the rotary on-switch.  I have to be really careful about how I put them in my range bag, or the switches will turn on and kill the batteries.  Beyond that, I love them.

I bought a pair of MSA Sordins and like them. About $150.

I recently had my ear doctor make me so customized silicon type ear plugs and I rarely use the Sordins anymore. It gets extremely hot it FL during the summer months and they make you sweat like a pig. The ear plugs are a little cheaper and ten times more comfortable. I hardly know they are there.

I run MSA Sordin's over the surefires when firing unsuppressed as my ears still ring while wearing surefires.

Are there any good electronic ear plugs out there?  I hate wearing ear muffs and they get in the way sometimes.

I find Howard Leights to be uncomfortable and cumbersome. I have tried about every electronic ear pro and prefer the Peltors. However, to me the Surefire ear plugs work better at noise cancellation and are far more comfortable when put in correctly than electronic muffs. My next step in hearing protection is going to be custom made plugs.

MSA SORDIN, TEA (msa sordin too, current being used by myself) PELTOR comtac II & ACH kit are very good,  QUIETPRO is a earplug option also.  Sordin & peltor have great civy counterparts at better prices - Get gel earcups......                           quietpro               TEA neckband      Comtac II's    all Great noise blockers......

I've got a set of the Peltor Tactical 6's. They work fine. They're comfortable. They work even when the batteries are dead.
