I know the military has the new GEN III ECWCS, But what I can't seem to find out is if they upgraded the foot/hand wear. I know I've seen the Marines using some OR industries stuff but thats it. Can someone let me know what current issue "GEN III" if you will hand/footwear is?
Thanks, Squeeky |

There are some OR made cold weather gloves you only get when you go to cold weather training or real cold places |

The SOF community has a handwear system by OR that they use.
Unfortunatly, for us conventional guys, a decent glove system is still not issued. It is activly being worked, but nothing issued yet. We still get issued the lobster mits and extreme cold weather mittens depending on region for cold weather handwear. As far as boots go, still issuing mickey mouse boots for extreme cold weather, so no real improvements there either. |

My understanding is GEN III ECWCS does NOT have an official issue glove. However, a lot of my buddies have been issued the Outdoor Research Firebrand Mitts and Firebrand Gloves. Yes gloves do not come in the cardboard box with the complete ECWS but there are several types of cold weather gloves that are issued along with it. heres some of the cold weather gloves issued to me. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m303/daemon734/DSCF1630.jpg Can you tell me what those are left to right and your personal experience/opinion of each? Thanks |

I L/R
1. Dakota Nomex IIIA CW tactical gloves 2. Extreme cold weather gloves (dont know the make or real name) 3. MXC combat gloves (camelback) 4. Masley cold weather flyers gloves Ive never actually worn any but number one, and I found them to be ok for CW, but big and bulky for regular weather. The rest I just pulled out of the bag. Im taking numbers 3 and 4 to a TDY assignment here soon, so ill be sure to post a report. They feel good and seem to be a good compromise between warmth and dexterity. I generally wear real thin gloves because my jobs require good finger dexterity, and I havent spent much training time in super cold, snowy weather. Usually I just suck it up and wear mechanix gloves. |

If you ever decide to get rid of the masley gloves (far right) and they are the size Im looking for let me know.
Loved the set I had and wound up losing one of the gloves .
The masleys are great and not very costly. The puffy ones are nice but a little thick to me. |
