Evidently a stupid question, mods if you could please delete or lock

Thank you to the people in a technical forum that provided an answer without the attitude.

Everything there eventually becomes the color of the dust/sand/dirt.

So, what you see in those pics is what it looks like in the field.

But from what I have been told, it works better than the ABU/ACU styles.

Most people on arfcom don't realize this but if you get out and use your gear it will get dirty. After a while it all looks like dirt and dust.

It works.

So you're asking if dirt from the ground gets on the camo it will get ineffective since they can't see the pattern? Uh....wait, what?

Even when brand-spank-the-monkey-new, the GI-issue flame-resistant, insect-repellent-treated, OCP uniforms are more subdued than the 50/50 NyCo or 65/35 Poly-Cotton Ripstop civilian market Multicam Uniforms.

I don't even know how to answer this. Yes Multicam works, everything gets dusty down range and dirty, which makes it more affective.

...but....but.....but it doesn't look as PRETTY!!!!!

yeah I've never gotten the apparent brain disconnect that people have with gear.  If you use it...it'll eventually blend into your AO because your AO gets into it....kinda like Soviet Russia

non-smart ass version:

the whole purpose of camo is to blend in with surroundings = dirt/ground.

when the local dirt gets on the camo, even if it covers up the pattern, it is effective since that is the local dirt.

The only time it MIGHT be an issue is moving from the dirt areas to vegetation.  In that case, brush off the dirt and carry on.

There you go brining common sense into things.

OP, Kansas is a very diverse state as far as topograhpy.  We have dense woods, broken wood lots, thick over-grown grassy lands, sage scrub, and due to the current drought conditions out west, flat out desert.  Multicam seems to work real well in each of those environments.  Woodland patterns can be too dark, desert patterns can be too light.  Multicam is a nice middle ground.  That said, I am now playing with some ATACS and it is looking real promising.

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.
