Anyone use this stuff? Does it work better than the new multicam?

Yes, it works well in the environment it was designed for.

There are SEVERAL threads about it already.

I gotta say, I'm liking ATACS.  I'd despaired of finding a pattern that fit the local area.  I was afraid I was going to have to paint me up some "field expedient" BDUs.  Multicam came sort of close (dead on according to the fanbois, but not close enough for me), but still stuck out in the multi-hued prairies that are the primary non-urban terrain around here.  ATACS looks like it'll disappear in the brush.

I know you're joking around but if anyone is looking for some cheap winter camo, get yourself some tyvek suits at your local lumber yard. Splash on some contrast and you're golden. Use these for coyotin' over all my winter shit.

Anyone recommend manufacturers of gear in A-TACS?

I know Tactical Assualt Gear does.  Been going through most of the links on the "where to buy" section of the A-TACS website.

I want a good MOLLE chest harness, but all I can find are the TAG ones that aren't interchangeable (ie. the main pouches are permament).  They have one all MOLLE rig, but I'd like something that includes MOLLE around the sides/back.  I want a chest rig and want A-TAC (may wind up with a TAG plate carrier....)

I think EGL may be custom making them.  Look him up on Facebook.

It sounds more like you want a vest than a chest rig.

Why do you want a modular base in ATACS if you want to cover in ATACS pouches?

get a khaki rig as a base and work from there

eggrolly, that is a good point!  Hadn't thought of that.

jinx, I don't really need the back covered (and want something I could later put over a plate carrier if I ever get one).  It's just that the chest rigs I've seen in A-TACS seem to have the MOLLE only in the very front, I'd like something going around to the 3 and 9 o'clock areas.

I was all set on getting multicam and now that I found this I dont know what to get. I like the way this looks over multicam but have only seen A-Tacs in advertisement pics which can be made to make it look better. Anyone have experience with it or has everyone only seen pics?

I had A-Tacs pants on yesterday. They are sweet in real life too. They seem a bit more tan than the pics but it's all about the pattern distribution since it's random.

I really don't know why the military has stuck with hard edged patterns for so long. Even multicam uses large blobs with heavily defined edges. A-TACS looks more like nature does with no hard edges. The nice thing about the A-TACS color pallette is it has lots of different hues of the basic colors in nature. When you are standing in front of more green, it tends to pull the green out of the pattern. Lying on desert terrain and the browns are pulled out.

I picked up my Uniform Smock and a pack at Predatorbdu. I also got some individual pouches on order with TAG. Has anyone seen the DPMS Oracle in stock anywhere? You can certainly search for reviews and other discussions on A-TACS. I have been following along and picking up tips on products for a while now.

EDIT: Sorry, thought I was responding to wsix. Guess I did it wrong.

Yeah when I saw ATACS the first time that is exactly what I thought.  It's why my halloween costume uses ATACS pieces in it.  My wife is princess Leigh in Endor gear and I am a rebel in Endor gear.  Our 9 month old daughter is an Ewok.

A mini field report.  Went hunting in SW KS earlier this week.  We spent most of our time in mixed wheat stubble, dry standing corn, and sagebrush/yucca pasture.  My dad and I were wearing EOTAC ATACS gear.  Dad just disappeared.  The way the pattern works with shadows and highligths, the human outline was entirely gone.  On Tues, 3 of us were a couple hundred yards out in a sagebrush pasture blood trailing a whitetail.  My uncle was watching from the road.  That day my dad was wearing Cabela's open country camo, my buddy was wearing a mix of digital desert and Mossy Oak brush, and I was still wearing ATACS.  My uncle said dad and Greg were glowing like a light bulb and easy to spot from several hundred yards, even without binos.  He said he could not see me at all and I was standing right between the other two.  He finally spotted my bare face with binos, but said I was pretty much invisible.

Needless to say, everyone I hunted with has decided to purchase the ATACS camo.  The best stuff we have found for that kind of terrain.

There are some pics of our antelope(and my ATACS camo) over in the "Big Game" forum.

Any pictures of the terrain you were in?

10/7/2011 9:04:31 AM EDT

Don't have any good pics of the terrain, just whats in the background on the trophy shots.  We were in sagebrush and yucca pastures most of the time but spent some time in standing dry corn, dry CRP grass, and out in the open in wheat stubble as well.  The pattern worked great in all of the terrain.  One thing for sure was there was NO green out there.  Between the drought conditions and recent fires, some of it was like hunting on Mars.

Another thing I noticed is how the commercial stuff the other guys were wearing had a "shine" to it.  The ATACS didn't shine at all.  Might have been a result of the ripstop fabric.  It was strange how the pattern created shadows and highlights that completey broke up the human outline and blended into the background.  You just have to see it with your own eyes.

I have also been wearing the ATACS here in south central KS.  Here we have mixed timber/woodlots, crop fields, and tall grass/brush pastures.  It seems to work well here too, even in the timber.  The greener terrain seems to bring out the green in the pattern.

I am not giving away my multicam any time soon, but I am sold on ATACS and can't wait to try out the ATACS FG for spring and summer here in the woodier country.

What do you guys think will work best for wearing with both A-TACS FG and regular arid A-TACS in terms of gear color? Coyote Brown/Tan or Ranger Green?

If those were my two choices, I would pick Coyote/Tan instead of Ranger Green.  Even in the timber, you will find brown stuff.  You can't always find green in arid country.

With EOTAC out of business my guess would be Propper, SORD, and Tactical Performance for clothing.  For gear, I am sure TAG will be one of the 1st.

Yeah, I want an ARMA Softshell Jacket from Tactical Performance in the A-TACS FG in time for Christmas if that's possible. Love that jacket just wish that the hood would roll up in to the collar like their PCU.

Check this guy out; he added A-TACS to his offerings. I have purchased stuff for him in the past; the gear is quality made and not the typical "Hong Kong Airsoft" cheap stuff you see on eBay. For now, he has the apparel (Jackets, pants, helmet cover), but I figure he will be adding the pouches and tactical gear as well.
