It was last bumped almost 8 months ago. I'm pretty sure the mods set it to not go into archive otherwise it would have been archived way back then.

@joker581

Could we get this picture back in the OP?  It's the only one I could find and it's to big for me to post.

There's this.
It's downloadable, and the side picture (among others) is there.

It's very good info!

You kinda don't...

There is a huge misperception that you can get shot outside the heart/lungs and it will magically be ok because doctors...

That's just not true.  Your spinal cord is there...as are several arterial blood flows that are internal and likely impossible to shut off.  The lower abdomen and pelvic region are horrible places to get shot.  Internal bleeding, painful, and deadly.

This mindset of "I'm a ninja in a sexy plate carrier from Crye who doesn't need ballistic protection outside this 4 inch square because operator operator operator  is going to get people killed.

Never underestimate the least vocal man in the room. He has already assessed the room and its contents and has formulated several ways to escape, evade and kill everyone in said room!

I've fixed the link for my last version of this document.  You can find it here:  http://sixty-six.org/files/GUNFIGHTER_ANATOMY_proper_wear_of_armor.pdf

I plan to update this document this winter.

Anyone may use it, however I would appreciate credit if you're going to use my verbiage to make money.  I can think of a certain YouTuber here.

You should edit your original post to include the anatomical diagrams or put the link above in there.

IDK, but very discrete wearing of soft armor on "some" public ranges might be beneficial.

FWIW, I've taken to wearing low-profile soft body armor on my local Private range.

YMMV.

How important is the nipple to nipple? I have 10x12 plates that seem to hit all the boxes as far as length etc. (need to double check) But I don't see upsizing to 11x14 really changing the N to N problem.

I would think that my lungs would be similar in size to any adult males, even if the frame is wider.

Thanks.

I would keep in mind that a lot of the theory in plate land is that it is overall acceptable to receive a penetrating gunshot wound to the kidneys, intestines, pelvic area...as the presumption is that you have immediate access to a trauma surgeon via Med Evac in the military system where golden hour is real and you have a platoon of guys to finish the fight and evacuate you to a higher level of care.

Those assumptions are not valid for a huge % of people.  A GSW anywhere on the torso is a full on show stopper for the majority of the population and could easily result in death.

I would caution that the applicability of plates is relative to your mission, evacuation timelines, threats faced, and depth of your defensive forces in that they can take casualties and still remain functional.  If those issues are different for you, maybe add protection.
