What's the difference between the larger and the large LN? Seriously thinking about picking one up, even though I should be spending the money on other things.

I've got an RBAV in khaki- pretty awesome vest. A lot lighter and more comfortable than the CIRAS.

where did you get yours from?

I got mine from entrygear tactical - but it was a drop ship from the factory and took almost two months to get. I found BAE M97 soft armor panels on ebay and snagged them for like $230 - so all in all the vest with inserts cost like $550. Not bad. I'm rocking regular E-SAPIs in them right now but I really want to get the lightweight BAE SOLAR plates when I can afford them.

How do the M97 soft armor panels differ from a standard Twaron or Dyneema BALCS package? Also I see you are using them with standard ESAPIs... On the entrygear website it says:

"The M97 soft armor package must be used in conjunction with SPEAR Baseline Plates to achieve rated ballistic performance of the complete armor package. Not intended for use with standard issue E-SAPI plates."

Is this just saying it hasn't been officially certified with standard-issue ESAPI, or is there some real reason why such a setup would be problematic?

I read that too, but couldn't find anything to explain why. The guy at entrygear said that was just a CYA thing.

The short Eggrolly opinion of this rig.  Buy it.

If you are in the market for a BALCS pattern releaseable over vest, I have not found one to top this particular design.

There is more than a passing resemblance to the CIRAS.. As it was designed by the bubba responsible for the CIRAS, but this time was designed "smartly" with 500d as the core material.  The softer hand of the 500 allows the armor package to better conform to the wearers body profile and lead to longer periods of wear before fatigue set-in

Ive used one off and on for the last few years and will still go to it if a larger coverage vest is needed
350 is a smart buy as I have seen crusty used examples go for that much.

And if you find it lacking in some way, there will be no shortage of those willing to fully recoup your funds

Anyone? I'd also like to know. Particularly will it take a 6x8 side SAPI...

Yes, it will accept 6x6 side plates.  The internal pouches can hold the plates or be divided to hold 2x M4 mags.

Would it fit 6x8 plates eg a standard side-SAPI? Thanks...

I would assume yes.  They will probably just stick out of the side pouch.

Can the plates be attached somehow?  Or are they just loose in the side pouch?

Is there a specific area I should use to measure the heigh of my torso? From where to where? I'm fairly certain a Large will be fine, but I just want to make sure.

I got mine from entrygear tactical 2 months ago in coyote brown.  I snagged some  Diamondback tactical  IIIA soft armor panels off of ebay  for $320  - so all in all the vest with inserts cost me like $720
