May as well ask here instead of the gear porn thread
Does anyone regret buying the daedon instead of the daedon a.s.s.? I broke down and ordered one yesterday because I really like the idea of having a decent cummerbund. I've been using a GGG minimalist and it doesn't have one at all.

I bought mine when both were in stock and prefer the Daeodon.

No regrets

I have the ASS bc it was in stock.  I have a friend that swears by the daeodon but with cobra belts instead of cumberbund.  I knew I was giving up the ability to attach hydration to the back.  I’m no operator, but if I’m leaving out, I’ll have a bag on my back with hydration, if I’m fighting, I probably won’t last long enough to need water.

I could see the convenience of water on the pc for training days and such.

I don't see many people running an admin pouch high center. Just an excuse to carry more crap (weight)?

Used to do it because I saw cool guys doing it. Never put anything useful in it, and ended up like you said: a pouch that will be filled, needed or not.

I got HLs on the MARK as well. Haven't played around with them much since it's been to burny to shoot outdoors. What's the trick to getting them to flip back?

Since I'm no longer active duty, I  stopped doing that. Although I may pick one up from FERRO to put my phone in while I'm working out in my PC. Otherwise,  yeah, just another spot to put things

I also figured it would be a good place for my phone and small stuff that won't need to be in an IFAK (I carry eyewash and lip balm everywhere).

Not necessarily. People tend to build things backwards though-as in they buy "cool gear" but have no use for it.
Ex-don't buy a B.O.B. then figure out what put in it. Lay out your gear and select your bag based off that. The PC is no different.
My current admin pouch carries:
Batteries
Pens
Markers
Chemlights
The tuning and disassembly wrench for my piston
Cloth for scope lens
Small multitool
Small monocular (that may not stay)
Laminated cheat cards-ex:kill card, emergency phone numbers, grid coordinates, local edible plants, quick reference medical cards.

Its a horizontal pouch that sits strong side forward on cummerbund.

Gets in the way of a smooth mag draw with low-pro mag pouches, and, in my case, having the admin pouch on my belt is more useful, as I will almost always be taking my belt out wherever I go. Not so with the PC.

Thanks. My question is more about ceramic vs steel and durability I guess. I can see the value of doing matches in a carrier but if classes and training have you going from standing to prone, etc I wouldn’t want to crack or break plates by dropping down. Bulletproofme.com has a good deal on a London carrier if you buy their plates..but they’re ceramic. I had pretty much decided on steel, given price and durability but the deal has me pondering ceramic.

We've been fighting wars with them for years. As long as you don't toss them down the stairs for fun you should be fine.

I do everything I would do without plates with my plates, and so far none of them have failed field tests. Haven't had one X-rayed yet so it's theoretically possible they got screwed up I suppose. What I've been told by guys who would know is that if the impact doesn't hurt me, it's very unlikely to hurt the plate. Taking a minor spill off a roof prop or small climbing obstacle is different than falling off a roof or getting into a car accident.

Steel sucks to use, so the people who sell steel have found ways to market it to distract from that fact. They talk about ceramic having a "shelf life" and being "fragile", both of which are bullshit, particularly for an individual normal guy who will be storing his equipment properly.

They're made to stop bullets, they aren't fragile.  I would guess that anything you do while wearing them is fine unless you also get hurt.  When you're not wearing them avoid throwing the plates off roof tops or driving over them.

Plates are drop tested and x-rayed as part of the certification process.

I believe they are dropped from 6 feet twice onto concrete then evaluated.

If soldiers can fight in them they are plenty tough.

My plates were in a duffle after getting issued and someone knocked my bag off the step while getting out and it split one of my plates. Granted, this was 10 years ago and it probably landed perfectly on a corner.

It was such a pain in the ass to get it replaced. No one believed me and every time I flexed it to make it make the crunchy sounds, it got worse. By the time I got approved to go back to RFI and get a new one, it was delam'd across about half of the plate.

Then we get to Manas (jump-off point before heading into Afg) and we find out there was a recall on our plates and had to have them inspected and swapped out.

Nice!

All I would add is a small admin pouch on the cummerbund for CR123 batteries, multi-tool, small flashlight, a few zip ties, small roll of tape, small note pad, Sharpie, pen, ear pro, torx driver, CR2032, and a protein bar. Speaking of ear pro... I think it would be a good idea to (at the minimum) have a set of $30 electronic earmuffs permanently assigned to your PC/war belt combo.

I’d also add a small padded pouch for NODs so you don’t bang them up during day time.

If you go hot in a mass unrest incident, your ears are going to be ringing like you’ve never imagined. Today’s tech allows us to protect our hearing from gun fights while at the same time being able to hear normal conversations.

Edit:

Saw the dog tags under your avatar so you already know all of the above.

I forgot to put my Ops-core AMPs on my helmet because apparently I suck at flexing on the poors .  I didn't have them attached from the last time I was hog hunting, using a suppressor negates needing the earpro.

I prefer a backpack for carrying extra stuff.  NODs and all that assorted admin pouch stuff can go in a small backpack.  Even on my work IOTV the admin pouch only holds a map, protractor, and a couple map pens.

Since I have a esstac ass coming , does anyone have any thoughts on pontoon/ pad options for the Interior velcro. I was going to pick up a pair from skd but there isn't a whole lot of user feedback to read up on, I know there are other options such as qcore and armorvent etc.

Thanks

The Source Kangaroo has a slick outer and attaches via MOLLE straps.

I switched from the Razor to the Kangaroo. Fits the PC much better and lower profile.
